Sheyang's natural environment is superior. With a land area of 2,800 square kilometers, a coastline of 103 kilometers and a tidal flat area of 726 square kilometers, Sheyang Coastal is now the largest tidal wetland in the western Pacific Ocean, and is a member of the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Network, inhabiting more than 370 species of birds, more than 280 species of fish, more than 40 species of mammals, more than 40 species of amphibians and reptiles, more than 800 species of molluscs, and more than 480 species of plants.

Sheyang has abundant water resources. The four main rivers in the Lixiahe area of Jiangsu Province flow through Sheyang into the sea, the water conservancy hub project is complete, and the four large tidal gates such as the Sheyang River Gate are all in Sheyang along the coast, and the main irrigation canal in northern Jiangsu flows through the north end of Sheyang, forming a natural irrigation water system, and Ze is covered with a large area. The water network in the territory is vertical and horizontal, the water system is reasonable, the drainage and irrigation are separated, and the functions are complete, so that the crops can be harvested in drought and flood.

Sheyang is the alluvial marine sedimentary plain of the Huanghuai River, which is saline paddy soil and is very fertile. After soaking in seawater, the sea receding plain has all kinds of minerals and trace elements in the ocean, and the tidal flats formed after hundreds of years have dense meadows and reeds, rich plant species, many marine shellfish and aquatic animals, and a large amount of organic matter and humus. The soil is weakly alkaline, PH is 7.5~8.5, the soil structure is good, the neutral loam soil, the water storage and air permeability is good, unlike the clay soil when it is dry and compacted, and it is not breathable in case of waterlogging; it is not like the sandy soil, the rain is leaked, and the useful substances are easy to lose.

The climate and environment of Sheyang are unique, it is a typical oceanic humid climate, with four distinct seasons, rain and heat in the same season, which is a unique "cold nest" in Jiangsu, and the temperature is slow in spring and summer, so that the crop growth period is long. Sheyang is the mouth of the Jianghuai cyclone, and the cold and warm air meet frequently in summer, and there are many thunderstorms, especially at night, which is conducive to rice tillering and jointing. It is located between the ocean and inland climates, and the temperature difference between the seasons and day and night is also large, which stimulates the growth of plants.

The frost-free period of Sheyang is as long as 281 days, the accumulated temperature is higher, greater than or equal to 10 °C, the accumulated temperature is 4526 °C ~ 4685 °C, and the crop maturity period in September ~ October every year, during which the steam volume is greater than that of the north and south counties, and the light is sufficient, which is conducive to the formation and accumulation of plant dry matter. Therefore, Sheyang rice cultivation has unique conditions.

In 2001, our county took the lead in establishing the first county-level rice association in China to guide the county's rice planting and improve the processing level. With the efforts of Sheyang Rice Association for many years, the "five unifications" management model of unified raw material varieties, unified product standards, unified quality management, unified brand identity, and unified operation according to law came into being. In 2019, the local standards for Sheyang rice led by our county were officially introduced, which clearly defined the scope of origin and raw material varieties of Sheyang rice, and put forward strict requirements for amylose, gel consistency, and taste score values of rice processing quality.

Sheyang Rice Group, Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other scientific research institutes jointly established the "Jiangsu Sheyang Rice Industry Research Institute" to select and breed a series of new varieties of "Hexiang Japonica", and the coverage rate of improved rice varieties reached 90%. Among them, "Hexiang Jing No. 1" has an earlier maturity period, better appearance and taste, high rice yield, and an average yield of more than 650 kg per mu, which can better solve the problem of lack of fragrant and high-quality varieties in the development of rice industry in Huaibei area. Our county actively tried to promote salt-tolerant rice varieties, and the yield of 20 varieties planted in saline-alkali land was higher than that of conventional japonica rice. We have promoted the construction of provincial-level demonstration counties for comprehensive mechanization of agricultural production, built 17 digital "unmanned farms" and characteristic agricultural machinery test demonstration bases, and the mechanization rate of rice production has reached more than 98%.

In recent years, our county has implemented the upgrading project of leading rice processing enterprises, promoted the "intelligent transformation and digital transformation" of a number of core enterprises such as Sheyang Rice Group and Bixin Rice Industry, supported the development of key enterprises such as Yihai Grain and Oil, Shen's Rice Industry, and formed a new industrial interconnection model of "rice with rice, rice to promote cake, and rice with oil", so as to improve the comprehensive utilization rate of grain and the added value of products. There are 68 rice processing enterprises with an annual production capacity of 3 million tons, including 3 national agricultural leading enterprises and 3 provincial enterprises, in accordance with the business model of "enterprise + base + farmer", to build a mechanism of interest connection, and become "one of the top ten models of landmark and rich people in Jiangsu Province".

Our county pays attention to multi-channel marketing, and insists that ordinary rice occupies the market, mid-end rice creates benefits, and high-quality rice is branded. In major cities across the country, it has cooperated with 28 large supermarkets and more than 3,000 supermarket chain stores, established 41 rice direct stores and more than 500 associated stores in large and medium-sized cities, and set up 12 official online stores of "Sheyang Rice" on Tmall, Suning, Jingdong and other large e-commerce platforms, with sales areas of 27 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government), with an annual sales volume of one million tons and a total brand value of 35.721 billion yuan.

At present, the Sheyang rice industry chain covers primary, secondary and tertiary industries, with an output value of 2.496 billion yuan, 7.2 billion yuan and 2.216 billion yuan respectively. Sheyang Rice has a production base and an order agricultural scale of 500,000 mu, driving employment of 19,800 people, with a total sales income of 33.851 billion yuan, driving 185,000 farmers and increasing farmers' income by more than 300 million yuan.

Nowadays, the influence of Sheyang rice brand continues to expand. It has successively been approved as the collective trademark of "Sheyang Rice" geographical indication, the geographical indication protected product and the geographical indication of agricultural products, and is the first collective trademark of geographical indication in the rice industry in China. It has successively won the honorary titles of China's famous brand products, China's top 100 regional public brands of agricultural products, China's top 10 regional public brands of rice, China's top 10 delicious rice, China's top 100 favorite regional public brands, China's top 10 most influential landmark brands of green agriculture, and China's well-known trademarks, and has been selected into the list of Jiangsu Agricultural Brand Boutique Cultivation Program of Jiangsu Provincial Intellectual Property Office and the list of Agricultural Brand Boutique Cultivation Program of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China.
