As the name suggests, a single hook is a wire that directly connects to the hook, eliminating the need for strands and figure-of-eight rings.
The main purpose of using a single hook is to catch carp with a thinner line.
This means that if you can catch a carp with a thick line and the catch is satisfactory, there is no need to use a single hook (no need to use a thin line).
I am writing this article mainly because many people send me private messages saying that the carp with thick threads do not give mouths, the thin threads are always broken, and they don't like to use rods with wheels, and they don't even want to tie a lost rope.
In this regard, I think about it, there is only one way to go through the line and single hook.
There are actually more advantages to a single hook than you might think
The biggest advantage of a single hook is that it is strong enough, and the lack of a figure-of-eight ring and strand means that there are fewer knots, and the fewer knots on the fishing line, the stronger it is.
If we take the normal line set and the single hook ratio of the through line, for example, the No. 3 main line with the No. 2 sub-line and the No. 2 through line ratio, then the No. 2 through line must be stronger. In actual fishing, even a 1.5 line is better than 3+2.
Why is this so? In addition to the loss of tensile force in knotting, another important reason is that the double hook of the strand is easy to bridge after the middle fish, and it is difficult to walk the fish once the bridge is built. Even without a bridge, the other hook is prone to hooking other obstacles, eventually leading to a running fish.
There is no need to think about bridging, worrying about another hook hooking up obstacles, or worrying about strand entanglement.
Another advantage is that the single-hook adjustment of the through line is very simple, the closer the lead sinker is to the hook, the more agile it is, and the farther away it is, the more dull it becomes (the drift adjustment method will be explained below).
Disadvantages and solutions of single hook through line
The biggest problem is the bottom, once the bottom is hung, at least a hook is lost, or the whole rig is wasted.
Especially if you can't pull an obstacle like hanging on the ground cage, it means that you must need to redo the wire set, which is very troublesome.
This is really difficult to do, my solution is generally to use a normal line set to fish for a while, make sure the bottom is clean, and then change to a single hook. The normal line group uses a double hook, if there is an obstacle underneath, the two hooks must be easier to hang, we throw a few rods before and after, left and right, to make sure that the bottom is clean and then change the line.
Secondly, the line group with a single hook is prepared with a few more pieces, once the bottom is broken, no matter where it is broken, it will be replaced first, and then it will be done after getting home.
In fact, if you can make a line group, the cost of a single hook is very cheap, and the most expensive may be the float, but the bottom float can generally be taken back (change the normal line group, just throw it out and hook it back). If you want to buy a float for catching big fish, you can buy a cheap one, just a float, so that even if you can't pull it back, you won't feel distressed.
Precautions for using a through-line single hook
1. When making the line set, it is recommended to make the line longer, which is helpful for fish walking. In fact, I recommend that you learn Mr. Li Damao's knotless variable line group, that is, the two at the connecting rod are also omitted, and 2~3 space comics are used instead.
This is very practical, the tension will be further improved without 2 knots, in addition, the variable line group without solution can store a section of line, if the fishing point is open can throw a big whip, put the line to the longest; If it is not suitable for throwing a big whip, use a Qi pole line.
2. Regarding the problem of drifting, if you make a line and tie the hook more neatly and not too troublesome, it is recommended to make a line when you go to the fishing ground, so that you can level the water without a hook, tie the hook after adjustment, hang the bait, and fish two or three, four or five eyes.
If you are too lazy to go to the scene to do the line, and the home will be ready, then we will bring the hook to adjust, which is not very accurate, and the hook can be adjusted to the float and slowly sink.
Or you can also level the water with a hook, and then take a small piece of lead and clamp it inside the large lead, the purpose of this is to ensure that the lead sinker gently touches the bottom.
3. For carp fishing, I recommend that it is rather dull and not spiritual, and the state of the above two normal groups is also a lead sinker touching the ground.
In other words, the following parts of the sinker are lying horizontally, so the rington of the rig is mainly determined by the distance between the sinker and the hook.
Fishing three or five catties of carp, the hook is about 10 centimeters away from the plumb sinker, if the individual is relatively large, generally in seven or eight catties, more than a dozen catties or even larger, then this distance can be adjusted to about 20 centimeters.
4. Let's talk about the choice of fishing line and hook, it is difficult to encounter particularly large fish in natural waters, especially for short-term fishing, in the face of less than 5 catties, I think that the line of 1.2 and 1.5 is enough, and it can be matched with the sea set of eight or nine.
If the fish is relatively large, more than 5 catties, you can use a No. 2 or even No. 3 through line, and the hook is an Iseni with a No. 10 or more. It is generally recommended that the No. 2 line is enough, and the hook Iseni 10, 11, and 12 are all fine.
Don't always think about doing a dozen pounds of big guys, now the resources are generally poor, and most anglers will not spend several days to guard, fishing for a day or two The probability of catching a giant is smaller.
