On the morning of July 2, the first Hunan Economic and Trade Cooperation Roundtable with Africa was held in the permanent exhibition hall of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo.

"Last year, the China-Africa trade volume in the Gaoqiao block reached 4.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 54.8%." In recent years, Wu Di, director of the foreign trade department of Hunan Gaoqiao Market, has personally felt the "spring river plumbing" of China-Africa trade. From 2023 to the first half of 2024, Hunan Gaoqiao Market organized 4 "going out" activities, leading more than 30 enterprises to Africa for inspection and trade docking, covering more than 30 African countries and further opening up trade channels. At the same time, more than 320 batches of more than 7,000 people from Chinese and African governments, enterprises and associations went to the Gaoqiao section of the Yuhua Block of Free Trade for inspection and docking.

What are the biggest difficulties and pain points of enterprises in trade with Africa, and how to identify the crux of the problem, explore solutions, form a joint force for development, and jointly promote Hunan's economic and trade cooperation with Africa to a new level?

On the morning of July 2, the first Hunan Economic and Trade Cooperation Roundtable with Africa was held in the permanent exhibition hall of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo. Nearly 50 industry experts from more than 20 units such as trade and manufacturing, engineering construction, foreign investment, foreign aid training, finance and banking, and research institutions attended the meeting. Relevant persons in charge of Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce, Changsha Customs, Hunan Provincial Taxation Bureau of the State Administration of Taxation, Hunan Branch of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange and other government departments attended the meeting. The parties exchanged experiences and practices on the construction of the China-Africa Economic and Trade In-depth Cooperation Pilot Zone and the triple-digit growth target for economic and trade with Africa.

At the meeting, Hunan Construction Investment, Hunan Cereals, Oils and Food Import and Export, Sany Heavy Industry, Haotong International, Zhuzhou CRRC, Gaoqiao Market, China Construction Fifth Bureau, Meilan Group, Dao Yikedao, Jinzai Food, Ai Fei Lijia Agricultural Company, Longping Hi-Tech, Hunan Agricultural Science International Exchange Center and other enterprises respectively briefly described their respective business conditions in Africa and shared their experience and practical experience in deepening African trade. The enterprises sought guidance and assistance from relevant government departments on the challenges encountered in overseas expansion such as investment and trade facilitation, tariff policies, and access to African products, and put forward opinions on how to promote the progress of China-Africa economic and trade relations.

Representatives of financial institutions such as China Development Bank Hunan Branch, Export-Import Bank of China Hunan Branch, Sinosure Hunan Branch, Bank of China Hunan Branch, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Hunan Branch, and Bank of Communications Hunan Branch then made speeches, saying that financial institutions will fully support Hunan enterprises to invest in Africa and effectively solve their financing difficulties.

Relevant leaders of Changsha Customs, Hunan Provincial Taxation Bureau of the State Administration of Taxation, and Hunan Branch of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange actively responded to the blocking and difficult problems raised by various enterprises, financial banks, and research institutions, and said that they would solve existing problems and improve the efficiency of cooperation with Africa from the aspects of policy formulation and tax incentives.

The relevant person in charge of the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce said that the appeal of various enterprises and financial institutions will be conveyed to the relevant departments to coordinate and promote the solution of problems, and enterprises should abandon the traditional concept of cooperation with Africa, fully understand the huge demand of Africa in emerging fields such as green, low-carbon and intelligent industries, increase the development of the African market, and actively change the strategy and way of going overseas.

Subsequently, the Hunan Economic and Trade Cooperation Roundtable with Africa will focus on specific issues and industries, carry out special consultations, and hold them regularly.

The conference was hosted by the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce and jointly organized by the Hunan Provincial Business Service Center and the Hunan Provincial China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Research Association.
