In response to the mainland's "Opinions" on criminal punishment for "independence," Lai Ching-te, a leading figure for Taiwan independence, claimed that "in the eyes of the mainland, only the Party for Promoting Reunification in Taiwan is not 'Taiwan independence,'" and that "the heaviest death sentence will affect 90 percent of the masses in Taiwan." Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council directly raised the level of travel warnings for travel to the mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao from yellow to orange, and then went further to the highest level of red. The MAC instigated that the Taiwan people who went to the mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao might be arrested for separatism. Public opinion on the island has strongly criticized Lai Ching-dra for his shameless behavior of all the people on the island, and the broad masses of people in Taiwan have even sneered at "being held for Taiwan independence."
It is expected that the "Opinions" on punishing "independence" issued by the mainland will have such an effect. For many years, because the mainland has implemented a policy of benevolence and softness toward Taiwan, it has not taken substantive sanctions and crackdown measures against Taiwan independence elements, so they oppose China's freedom of speech, freedom of political and business activities, and freedom of exit and entry. There are even some Taiwan independence elements who still have business on the mainland, and it is common for them to travel to and from the mainland, earning money from the mainland on the one hand, and scolding their mothers on the mainland on the other. In their opinion, this is simply eating meat and drinking wine, so unpleasant! If these people who recognize thieves as fathers, lure wolves into the house, divide and endanger the country, and hinder the rise of the nation are allowed to go unpunished for a long time, it is really unreasonable.
Hong Kong has always been a place where anti-China subversive forces have rampant activities, and the Taiwan authorities have long had ties with Hong Kong gangsters. After the passage of the Hong Kong National Security Law, the Hong Kong police have a clear legal basis for how to deal with Taiwan's intelligence agents. The Taiwan authorities said that tourists had been investigated by the police in Hong Kong and hoped that Taiwanese people would go to Hong Kong with caution. So who will be investigated in Hong Kong? It is obvious that ordinary people, will not be disturbed at all, there is no need to worry at all. It is these people who have endangered the interests of the country in the past, of course, they are weak-minded.
Now, not only do these Taiwan independence elements not dare to go to the mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao, but even if they go to some countries that are friendly with China, they will probably have to beat the drum in their hearts. The Taiwan authorities have threatened the Taiwanese people not to go to Cambodia, Myanmar, and Lebanon as much as possible. Countries like Cambodia can almost certainly assist the mainland in apprehending criminals. In fact, in recent years, Southeast Asian countries have arrested many Taiwanese fraudsters and extradited them to the mainland. It is useless for the Taiwan authorities to curse or oppose it. As China's political influence continues to grow and judicial cooperation deepens, more and more countries will arrest and extradite Taiwan independence elements back to China, and the space for Taiwan independence elements to operate internationally will become smaller and smaller.
Taiwan has a population of more than 23 million, many of whom are ordinary people engaged in business or academic activities. Do they also need to worry about their outbound activities? When Taiwan people come to the mainland for tourism, should they also be wary? This, of course, is completely unnecessary. The opinions have clearly pointed out that the mainland's law enforcement targets are currently only aimed at diehard Taiwan independence elements, that is, Chen Shui-bian, Annette Lu, Tsai Ing-wen, Lai Ching-te, and their close party henchmen, and that the ordinary people in Taiwan, even if they do not want to accept the one-China concept for the time being, will not be within the scope of the "Opinions." Therefore, although ordinary Taiwanese come to the mainland for tourism and business, there is no need to worry.
Of course, ordinary Taiwanese travels to the mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao are not completely without precautions. If Taiwan residents go to the mainland, they should not take pictures of ports, airports, or military exercises, and do not bring political, historical, and religious books from Taiwan to the mainland. To put it simply, it means not to spread Taiwan independence remarks, not to disseminate Taiwan independence publications, and still less to steal military intelligence from the mainland. This is indeed what the people of Taiwan must abide by when they come to the mainland for activities.
