At the end of the 2024 Copa America group stage, the teams of four Liverpool players joined forces to advance to the quarter-finals, with McAllister, Nunez and Dias topping the group, and Alisson's Brazil finishing second in Group D.
McAllister, as the offensive and defensive hub of Argentina, played 180 minutes in the first two rounds of the group stage. Alvarez's opener in the 2-0 win over Canada came from an assist from McAllister, who stabbed Alvarez ahead of the attacking goalkeeper despite the risk of injury. In the final round, due to the team's early qualification, McKa was rested.
This past season, Nunez faced so much criticism at Liverpool that the whole world knew his weakness of wasting too many chances. But in the Copa America, Nunez caught all opponents off guard. Uruguay scored 3-1 Panama and 5-0 Bolivia in the first two rounds of the group stage, and Nunez scored two goals in the group stage, tied for second place in the Copa America scorer's list.
In Group D there are two Liverpool players, Colombian winger Luis Dias and Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson. In the Copa America, Dias's breakthrough became Colombia's biggest offensive support, scoring a penalty in a 3-0 win over Costa Rica. In the three group games, Colombia won 2 and drew 1 and ranked first in the group with 7 points, and Dias contributed a lot.
As the goalkeeper of Liverpool, Alisson has become the patron saint of the Brazilian team in this Copa America. Alisson started all three games in the group stage and played the whole game, including a clean sheet against Costa Rica. Interestingly, in the game against Colombia, Alisson once passed the ball directly to Liverpool team-mate Dias, gave Dias a one-on-one knife, and then completed a brilliant save himself.
Liverpool's four-man squad will head into the Copa America, with McAllister, Nunez and Dias all topping their group and Alisson finishing second for Brazil. In the quarterfinals, Alisson will represent Brazil against Nunez-led Uruguay, another Liverpool derby.
