The incident occurred in Taikang County, Henan Province. A 20-year-old young man, Xiao Zhang, filed a criminal complaint against his mother, Zhang, accusing her of running away from home when she was three years old and abandoning her for a long time.
It all started 17 years ago. In July 2007, Xiao Zhang's father, Zhang Zhanwei, was brutally murdered in a clinic at his home. The murderer turned out to be an acquaintance with schizophrenia, Zhang Mouwei. A few days later, Zhang was arrested and confessed to the crime.
Soon after Zhang Zhanwei was killed, his wife left Zhang's family and never returned. Since then, Xiao Zhang's custody has been entirely in charge of his grandparents Zhang Shijing.
In the past 17 years, Zhang has indeed not remarried, and has been working in Zhengzhou and other places. Zhang Shijing said that Zhang had visited Xiao Zhang several times before and bought some things for Xiao Zhang. But when Xiao Zhang was four or five years old, he may have been affected and began to dislike his mother, and Zhang himself also suffered from mastitis and often needed treatment, so he completely cut off contact with Xiao Zhang.
Until December 2022, Xiao Zhang, who has grown up, took the initiative to find his fellow villagers and obtained his mother's phone number. He called Zhang and asked to add WeChat, wanting to know about his mother's recent situation. Although Zhang was a little resistant at first, he eventually added Xiao Zhang's WeChat.
The next day, Xiao Zhang made a special trip to his grandmother's house and met with his mother Zhang. Xiao Zhang also replied with a letter of questioning, asking his mother again why he could abandon him so much.
After many times of communication and resolution to no avail, Xiao Zhang decided to take legal means and submitted a criminal private prosecution to the relevant departments in April this year accusing his mother Zhang of being suspected of abandonment. Subsequently, Zhang was criminally detained by the police on suspicion of abandonment, and the public security organs have now submitted a request to the procuratorate for approval of arrest.
It is understood that Zhang's family once told the media that Zhang's relationship with his son has not been very good, so they have not met much. But Xiao Zhang's grandfather, Zhang Shijing, denied that there was a situation that prevented Zhang from seeing Xiao Zhang, and had been helping his grandson find his mother.
The case is under further investigation. According to the provisions of the Criminal Law of the Mainland, the crime of abandonment refers to the refusal of support by a person who has the obligation to support the elderly, the young, the sick or other persons who have no ability to live independently, and if the circumstances are heinous, it will constitute a crime and face criminal punishment.
