Rescuing the ancient village culture bursts with new vitality

Bapan Village, embedded in the picturesque "Maling River Gorge - Wanfeng Lake" national 4A-level tourist attraction, preserves the national intangible cultural heritage of the Buyi "eight-tone sitting and singing", has ancient paper-making technology, Buyi people's dwellings "stilted building" and other excellent traditional cultural memories, Nanpan River "Ten Mile Small Three Gorges" Qixia Valley scenery, more than 1,000 shade of ancient banyan trees, two kilometers along the river verdant bamboo belt, 2,600 acres of natural forest...... It is known as Guizhou's version of "Maldives".

Most of the families in Bapan Village are from Jiangxi, with a history of more than 600 years, and there are 148 households with a population of 635, of which the Buyi population accounts for 99%.

The wheels of the times are rolling forward, and the cultural "roots" of the village have been rescued.

One of the great four great inventions of the mainland, the "Caihou paper" papermaking process, was transmitted to Bapan in the early Ming Dynasty, and was on the verge of being lost because of the low efficiency of the original papermaking method. At the beginning of 2021, there was a turning point, Zhang Shuo, the first secretary of the village, won the support of the Central Committee for Promoting Democracy, and invested 150,000 yuan to implement the ancient papermaking transformation project, so that "old trees have new branches", and the average annual income of 29 papermaking households was more than 20,000 yuan.

The ancient dwelling of the Buyi nationality "stilted building" adopts the construction technique of "harmony between man and nature" built by the mountain and changing with the shape, and the concept of harmonious coexistence between man and nature is vividly expressed. It's a pity that it gradually fell into tatters and was on the verge of disappearing in the storm. Since 2020, the Central Committee of the Democratic Progressive Party has introduced investors to invest more than 4 million yuan, and the county has sought 2.4 million yuan in project funds, repaired 15 buildings and renovated 3 buildings in a timely manner, retaining their original ancient architectural style.

"There are 32 people in the village who can play and sing 'eight-tone sitting singing'." Chen Qiren, the village party secretary, said that "eight-tone sitting and singing" is a form of folk music and rap passed down from generation to generation by the Buyi people, with ox bone hu, gourd qin, moon qin, thorn drum, flute tube, hairpin, bag gong, pony gong and other musical instruments ensemble, the melody is simple, smooth and beautiful, the repertoire has more than 40 songs such as "toast song" and "mate selection song", covering the content of respecting and loving the elderly, warm hospitality, and hard work, and later added the content of "feeling the party's kindness".

At the same time, the village uses the "Village Rules and People's Covenant" to restrict and publicize and educate to protect the ancient paper-making facilities, the "stilted building" buildings of the ancient Buyi people's houses, the ancient banyan trees, the wild bamboo belt, and the natural forest.

The cultural "roots" of the village are bursting with new vitality and giving birth to new hope.

Build a solid foundation for the development of rural tourism

The ancestors of the Bapan villagers have been slashing and burning for generations, digging in the soil, and the poor life has remained unchanged for eternity. After liberation, especially after the reform and opening up, the life of the villagers gradually improved.

However, there are only more than 220 acres of cultivated land in the village, which mainly grows rice, corn and other grains...... In 2013, the per capita income was less than 2,300 yuan.

In 2014, Bapan Village was identified as the first batch of 2,000 key villages for rural tourism poverty alleviation by seven ministries and commissions, including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the National Tourism Administration, and the Poverty Alleviation Office of the State Council.

In September 2015, the Central Committee of the Democratic Progressive Party designated to help Bapan Village, and successively selected five Communist Party members, Zheng Bincheng, Li Xuefei, Man Yunlei, Zhang Shuo, and Li Zhuoqing, to serve as the "first secretary" of the village to carry out assistance work.

The Central Committee of the Association for Promoting Democracy invited experts to "total" to formulate the "Rural Tourism Development Plan of Bapan Village" and implement the project construction according to it. Through the coordination of projects, investment and other support, the implementation of the ancient papermaking transformation project, the repair and renovation of the ancient Buyi ancient dwelling "stilted building", 4 kilometers of Tongzhai Road, 2.8 kilometers of tourist routes, more than 600 square meters of ethnic culture square, support 120 villagers to go out to work...... In 2019, Bapan Village withdrew from the ranks of poverty-stricken villages, starting a new journey of consolidating and expanding the achievements of poverty alleviation and effectively connecting with rural revitalization. Subsequently, the Central Committee for the Advancement of Democracy and other departments continued to support the construction of tourist wharves and ring roads in Bapan, laying a solid foundation for the in-depth integration and development of culture and tourism.

Open up a new "track" for the integrated development of culture and tourism

"How can we make rural tourism popular?" The leaders of the Party Committee and Government of Wanfenghu Town and the cadres of the two committees of Bapan Village have been exploring.

In 2023, the International Mountain Tourism and Outdoor Sports Conference will be held in Qianxinan Prefecture, and the paddleboard experience will be held in Bapan Village on September 16 as scheduled, attracting more than 2,000 tourists to visit and sightsee.

Seeing the "grand occasion", the town and village cadres came up with the idea of holding events to promote the integrated development of culture and tourism, and won the support of the Central Committee for Promoting Democracy and other departments, and the Water Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sports of the People's Republic of China decided to hold the 2024 China Baicheng Paddleboard Open (Anlong Station) in Bapan Village.

Since the beginning of March this year, Wanfeng Lake Town has been intensively preparing for the event, bringing business opportunities to the villagers to increase their income, and opening up a new "track" for the integrated development of culture and tourism.

"I can earn about 3,000 yuan a week." Wang Chaowu, who runs a "farmhouse", is overflowing with joy.

There are 4 "farmhouses", 18 paddleboard companies, 3 parent-child amusement service companies, and 82 service booths in the village...... Households in the village have increased their income through the integrated development of culture and tourism.

"The forest coverage rate of Bapan Village has reached 92.7%, and over the years, it has been selected as the second batch of 'Chinese Minority Characteristic Villages', and has been rated as a civilized village in the province and a demonstration village for ethnic unity and progress in the whole state...... "Chen Qiren's face is full of pride and happiness."
