Deepfakes nearly 7,000 obscene images
In a case detected by the Beijing police, the police received a report that someone had posted an advertisement on an overseas website, and only a photo of daily life was needed to complete the effect of "removing clothes" with one click.
A suspect who was arrested by the police, Bai Moumou, was originally a technician of an Internet company, and he was suspected of committing a crime because he used AI clothing removal technology to produce and sell obscene materials.
Guo Shuzheng, assistant procurator of the People's Procuratorate of Haidian District, Beijing: The artificial intelligence software used by Bai Moumou can quickly "undress" the victim's pictures with one click, and basically generate corresponding pictures in batches in a few seconds or minutes. He sold related pictures to 351 people on QQ, and the number of pictures was nearly 7,000.
So, who are the victims of these stripped photos? Why did Bai Moumou make these photos? How did he make a profit?
In June 2023, Bai Moumou, who lives in Beijing, came into contact with this "one-click laundry" technology on overseas social media, so he started to think crookedly, planning to use this technology to make money.
The advertising post released by Bai Moumou reads "Computer AI to remove clothes, the price of cabbage" and "People around you, Internet celebrities, and celebrities are all available". After his advertisement was released, many people contacted Bai Moumou, sent him photos and purchased this "de-dressing" service.
So, what kind of technology is "AI stripping"? According to Bai's confession, this technology is not really "undressing", but a forgery and repainting technology.
Guo Shuzheng: Actually, we can understand it as a deep picture forgery, it doesn't really remove the clothes from other people's photos, in fact, it is all about redrawing pictures of existing models and existing modules.
Moreover, this technology is very simple to operate, and it only takes one button to complete the dressing, so Bai Moumou's price is not high, and a photo only needs 1.5 yuan, but it can use the low price to attract more orders.

"Face swapping" falsifies indecent photos

One-click clothing removal and AI face swapping technology will also be used by criminals and become a tool for extortion. Recently, there has been a resurgence of such cases. Not long ago, the Shenzhen police smashed a gang that collected victims' picture information from various channels such as the Internet, and then synthesized it and used it for extortion.
Not long ago, Mr. Wu, a citizen of Shenzhen, suddenly received an MMS message from an unfamiliar mobile phone number, and when he clicked on it, he saw that it was an indecent photo of him and a strange woman in a hotel room.
Mr. Wu: At that time, I received an MMS message with a nude photo of me, and he threatened me to contact him before what time to transfer money, and I called the police as soon as I thought something was wrong.
After receiving the report, the Shenzhen police immediately investigated the clues provided by Mr. Wu. By combing through the report records, the police found that Mr. Wu was not the only one in the city who had the same experience, and the suspects' extortion methods were the same.
As a result, the police immediately handled similar cases. After the investigation, a criminal gang that synthesized indecent photos and carried out extortion through face-swapping technology gradually surfaced.
With the deepening of the investigation, the police found that this was a criminal gang headed by Wang, with a clear division of labor within the gang, some people were responsible for retouching pictures, some people were responsible for finding the target of the crime, and some people were responsible for sending text messages and making phone calls to contact and collect money. The Pingshan police in Shenzhen divided into multiple routes to carry out a unified network collection operation, and with the assistance of the police in many places, they successfully arrested more than 10 criminal suspects led by Wang.
In the suspect's computer, the police found a large number of indecent photos after compositing and changing faces.
At present, Wang and others have been prosecuted by the procuratorate. The case is under further proceedings.
Threatening the victim with a composite photo
and say personal information accurately
In Weihai, Shandong, there are also parties who have encountered scams, and after receiving forged indecent photos, they transferred 200,000 yuan to the extortion gang without further verification.
Not long ago, the Weihai police received a fund warning message from the anti-fraud center, and some citizens were transferring money to the fraudulent account, and the police immediately contacted the person concerned to verify the situation.
Liu Yi, police officer of the Huangguan Police Station of the Economic and Technological Development Zone Bureau of the Weihai Municipal Public Security Bureau: We saw that he received a text message on his mobile phone, and the content of the text message was probably a picture with nude photos of a man and a woman, and a message was attached, saying, "I have all your video materials, contact me immediately", and attached a phone number.
Mr. Wang said that when he saw this photo, he was a little blindsided. Without having time to think about it, he dialed the number on the message. Because the other party accurately stated his name and employer, and told Mr. Wang that he could buy out the videos as long as he transferred 680,000 yuan to them, if Mr. Wang did not give money, the videos would be made public. Under the intimidation of the other party, Mr. Wang believed it.
However, the 200,000 yuan transferred successively could not satisfy the other party's appetite at all. Just as Mr. Wang was panicking, the police contacted Mr. Wang.
Liu Yi: When we looked at this photo with Mr. Wang, we found that although there were similarities in his face, his face and body shape were not his own at all.
After that, the police hurriedly used the national anti-fraud big data platform to urgently stop payment of the two bank accounts transferred by Mr. Wang.
After research and analysis, the police locked the identity information of the suspects Zheng and Zhong. On January 22 this year, Weihai police rushed to Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, to arrest two suspects, recovering Mr. Wang's losses.
