For many gout patients, it is important to pay attention to their daily diet. Keep your diet light and don't eat too many foods that are high in purines, such as animal offal and fish.
This is because once this kind of thing is ingested in the stomach, it will turn into uric acid through various reactions, which will make your gout symptoms worse.
In fact, in the daily diet of the mainland, the content of this kind of thing is relatively high, most of which are all kinds of meat, and the content of various fruits and vegetables in this regard is relatively much lower.
Therefore, many patients suffer from being able to eat vegetarian food every day and cannot satisfy their appetite.
In fact, not all meat dishes have a relatively high purine content, and many of them are very low, and eating them will not make your disease more serious.
1. What is gout?
The so-called gout is a disease caused by too much uric acid deposition in the body, which is common all over the world, and the prevalence of gout in different regions is mainly affected by geography and dietary habits, resulting in great differences.
It is reported that at least one out of every 100 people in the mainland suffers from gout.
In terms of current medical technology, it is not clear how gout is a disease, but it is known that more than 90% of gout patients are caused by uric acid excretion disorders.
For people with gout, it is often painful to feel that their joints are very painful, and it is a tearing pain, which is as unbearable as being cut with a knife.
Whenever you just wake up in the morning, or when you are ready to go to bed at night, it is easy to feel this kind of flesh-cutting pain, which makes many people feel very troubled.
In addition, if some people's symptoms are more severe, it may also cause your body to have symptoms such as fever, which will make your whole body more uncomfortable.
At present, there are usually only two treatments for gout, one is medication, which can significantly reduce the level of uric acid in your body and quickly relieve symptoms by taking drugs such as colchicine.
The second is dietary therapy. Since gout is caused by excessive uric acid deposition in the body, we should not eat too much acidic food in our daily diet, and should eat more alkaline food, which can help the body maintain acid-base balance.
At the same time, developing a good habit of drinking more water is also very beneficial in the treatment of this disease. Because you drink more water, the number of times you go to the toilet will become, and more uric acid will be excreted outside.
Doesn't this reduce the level of uric acid in your body? As soon as the uric acid level drops, the symptoms of gout will naturally improve.
Scientific studies have shown that more than half of the uric acid in a body is excreted to the outside in this way, so it is really important to drink more water.
For ordinary people, they have to drink at least seven or eight glasses of water every day to reach the normal standard. For some patients who need to drink more water to become healthier, this standard needs to be raised to more than 10 glasses of water, which is barely enough.
Of course, the more water you drink, the better, and if you drink too much, it will have a counterproductive effect on the body and endanger one's health.
In addition, it can also enhance blood circulation and promote uric acid by increasing exercise and reducing weight.
2. Gout patients need to avoid food
Reducing the intake of foods high in purines, oxalic acid, and fructose by controlling your diet is also a good way to deal with gout.
Among them, high-purine foods mainly include various animal offal, soy milk and other soy products, as well as fish, shrimp and crab and other seafood, as well as some thick soups and stews.
For every 100 grams of these foods, the purine content is about 150 milligrams, and the more can reach 800 milligrams.
Under normal circumstances, the content of 75 mg per 100 grams is relatively high, and it is not advisable to eat more.
Normal people should not touch this kind of food as high as more than 150 milligrams, or even hundreds of milligrams, and for people with gout, they should not touch it at all.
Vegetables such as spinach, bamboo shoots, callus white, leeks, leeks and other vegetables are all foods high in oxalic acid, and they are not suitable for gout patients.
Oxalic acid is something that does not increase uric acid levels in your body, but it can have strong side effects on the normal excretion of uric acid.
When ingested, it combines with minerals such as calcium to form insoluble salts such as calcium oxalate, which are difficult to get out of the body through normal metabolism.
In this case, it will accumulate little by little in the kidney, and when the amount of accumulation reaches a certain level, the organ will not work properly.
As mentioned earlier, most of the uric acid in the human body is excreted through the kidneys. If the normal function of the kidneys is not working, then uric acid will not be able to get outside, and it will continue to accumulate in the body little by little, making the condition more serious.
When this kind of stuff accumulates to a certain extent, it is easy to cause stones in the urinary tract. If a person suffers from gout and suffers from urinary tract stones or kidney stones at the same time, then the problem is more serious and the difficulty of treatment will be greatly increased.
The presence of urinary stones will add a lot of unnecessary trouble and pain to your daily life.
For example, it will make you very painful to pass blood and urine, this pain is not something that ordinary people can bear, after enduring it once, every time you want to urinate, you will inevitably be worried and afraid.
As for foods with high fructose content such as figs, lychees, dates, durians, persimmons, or drinks with high fructose content such as soft drinks, fruit juices, carbonated drinks, milk tea, honey water, etc., gout patients also need to avoid them.
This is because studies have shown that if the level of fructose in the blood rises, more purines are released.
The results of many studies have shown that if a person regularly consumes sugar-sweetened beverages, their risk of developing gout increases significantly.
In addition, excessive intake of fructose may also affect the absorption and utilization of other nutrients, such as calcium and magnesium, which are also important for the health of gout patients.
In addition to high-purine, high-oxalic acid, and high-fructose foods that need to be avoided, gout patients also need to eat as little as possible such as some alcoholic beverages or high-fat foods.
The former interferes with the normal excretion of uric acid, while the latter increases weight and leads to worsening gout symptoms.
3. Gout patients do not need to avoid three kinds of meat dishes
As has been repeatedly mentioned above, gout patients need to avoid intaking too many purines, so as not to cause too much uric acid in the body and aggravate the symptoms. Most of the meat and a small number of vegetables on the market are relatively high in purines.
As a result, many gout patients can only barely eat fast every day, and if they want to reward themselves with a bite of meat, they need to think before and after.
However, in fact, not all meat is relatively high in purines. The purine content of three types of meat, such as jellyfish, sea cucumber and pig's blood, is relatively low, and even lower than that of the staple food rice.
In order to give you a more intuitive grasp of the effect of food on uric acid levels, it is usually possible to divide its purine content from high to low, and divide it into four grades.
Among them, the purine content of high/ultra-high purine foods should reach more than 150 mg per 100 grams; The purine content of medium to high purine foods should reach between 75 mg and 150 mg per 100 grams; The purine content of low- to medium-to-low purine foods should be between 30 mg and 75 mg per 100 grams; The purine content of low-purine foods should be less than 30 mg per 100 grams.
The purine content per 100 grams of jellyfish is between 4 mg and 5 mg; The purine content of sea cucumber is about 50 mg per 100 grams; Every 100 grams of pig blood is a purine content of about 11 mg.
It can be seen that jellyfish and pig blood, two foods with low purine content, have a purine content of less than 30 mg, and moderate consumption will not lead to a significant increase in purine content in the body.
Sea cucumber, on the other hand, is a food with a medium purine content, with a purine content between 30 mg and 75 mg, and can also be eaten in small amounts for people who need to control their purine intake like gout patients.
Whereas, the purine content per 100 grams of rice is between 13 mg and 59 mg. It is significantly higher than the purine content of jellyfish and pig blood, and a little lower than the purine content of sea cucumber.
Therefore, from a scientific point of view, rice is also a low-purine food, and gout patients can eat it as a staple food.
As far as meat dishes are concerned, in the daily diet, oysters, octopus, squid, oysters, beef liver, etc., are all high/ultra-high purine foods, with purine content of 250 mg, 198 mg, 226.2 mg, 240 mg, and 233 mg per 100 grams respectively.
Shrimp, rabbit meat, beef, crucian carp and other foods are medium and high purine, and their purine content per 100 grams is 137.7 mg, 100 mg, 80 mg, and 130 mg respectively.
Lobster, pork, sea bass and other foods are all low- to medium-purine foods, with purine content of 60 mg, 50 mg, and 70 mg per 100 grams, respectively.
Cinnamon fish, egg white, egg yolk, chicken blood, etc. are all low-purine foods, and their purine content per 100 grams is 24 mg, 3.7 mg, 2.6 mg, and 20 mg respectively.
Therefore, gout patients, if you want to eat meat dishes, such as jellyfish, pig blood, sea cucumber, cinnamon fish, egg white, egg yolk, chicken blood, etc., you can consider.
All in all, for those who suffer from gout, it is important to be more careful in their diet and not to consume too many purines.
Try not to eat any foods with high and ultra-high purine content, and be cautious about eating foods with medium and high purine content.
For those foods with low purine content, eat a little in moderation; For those foods with low purine content, you can open your stomach and eat with confidence!
