Millettia dielsiana (scientific name: Millettia dielsiana) is a plant of the genus Millettia in the family Fabaceae. It is distributed in Vietnam, Laos and Hubei, Gansu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Yunnan, Hunan, Hainan, Shaanxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Fujian and other places in Chinese mainland, growing at an altitude of 2,500 meters, mostly growing in ravines, mountain slopes and shrubs, valleys and roadsides, and has not been artificially introduced and cultivated.
Function: Stem bark fiber can be used as raw material for rayon, paper making and weaving; Rattan is used for medicinal purposes, and the root is used in medicine, which has the function of relaxing muscles and invigorating blood, and also has the effect of killing insects. Rattan and roots contain phenolic components, amino acids, sugars, and resins.
What makes it special is that its stem contains a substance that other legumes do not have. When its stem is cut off, its xylem immediately appears pale reddish-brown, and soon slowly turns into bright red and the sap flows out, much like chicken blood, so people call it chicken blood vine.
Chicken blood vine contains a variety of components such as flavonoids, triterpenes and sterols, with high pigment content and the maximum absorption wavelength of the solution around 500nm. It can not only be used as a reddish-brown natural dye to dye textiles, but also has the functions of antibacterial and anti-ultraviolet radiation.
Extraction of dyes:
1. Wash and dry the plant chicken blood vine, mechanically crush, then add it to 5~20 times aqueous solution and soak it for 4~6 hours, add an appropriate amount of sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate or sodium phosphate, adjust the pH of the solution to 8~10, raise the temperature to 95~100 °C, keep warm for 60~90min, and filter; The filter residue was continued to be extracted with a dilute alkali solution of 5~10 times water and a pH of 8~10, filtered, and the extracts were combined twice to obtain the natural dye stock solution;
2. Concentrate the extracted natural dye stock solution to obtain a paste dye;
3. The obtained paste dye is solidified and crushed to obtain powdered natural dye.
Stain:
The steps of mordant dyeing in the same bath are as follows:
1) Soak the dye in water to fully moisten it, then take it out and squeeze it dry and set aside;
2) After the above treatment, put it into the natural dye and mordant solution of chicken blood vine for dyeing, and the formula is that the dye concentration is 0.1~10% of the weight of the dyed substance, the mordant concentration is 0.1~10% of the weight of the dyed substance, the PH value is 3~5, the liquor ratio is 1:20~100, the temperature is 80~100 °C, and the time is 30~90min;
其中,媒染剂为Fe2+、Al3+、Ce3+的盐或其任意两种混合物。
Chicken blood vine is a natural plant dye that is relatively easy to use. In 1995, the author did the first successful test, due to the loss of the original dyed fabric sample, this time the chicken blood vine was done a more systematic dyeing test. After dyeing four kinds of fabrics of natural fiber, cotton, linen, silk and wool, the effect is good.

In addition, a large number of readers have not yet developed the habit of liking, I hope you will light up the "watching" after reading, and every one of your "watching" will be used as motivation!
It's really not easy to be original, not only the text, but also the plant dyeing objects in the pictures are actually made, and I want to give up many times.
Persistence is a belief, and concentration is an attitude.
The 2024 June course of traditional dyeing training will be held from June 22 to 27 at the Beijing National Dyeing Museum.
Professional teachers, professional teaching materials, professional training, waiting for you who want to become a professional!
