5.17 Conference | Wenku: Focusing on four aspects to promote 5G-A from "usable" to "easy to use"

By the end of 2023, the total number of 5G base stations in mainland China will reach 3.377 million, and 5G industry applications will be integrated into 71 major categories of the national economy, and the enabling effect will continue to be highlighted. On May 17, at the "5G-A Construction and Application Innovation and Development Forum", Wen Ku, chairman of the China Communications Standards Association, said that from 2G to 5G, the "watermelon knife" of mobile communication is becoming sharper and sharper, and with the vigorous development of the digital economy, vertical industries also need this "fast knife".

As an evolution and enhancement of 5G, 5G-A network capabilities such as connection rate and latency have been improved several times, which can effectively support the growth of 5G applications and the development of digital innovation. In the context of accelerating the cultivation and development of new quality productivity, the construction of flexible and moderately costly 5G-A networks will accelerate the process of digital transformation, further give full play to the advantages of 5G network digital transformation base, and help the development of new quality productivity in the mainland. Nowadays, with the joint efforts of all parties, 5G-A is becoming more and more mature in terms of standards, technologies, and terminal ecology, and 5G-A has entered the implementation stage of industrialization from the standardization stage, and 5G-A will officially start commercial use in 2024, but 5G-A still has a long way to go from "usable" to "easy to use". In this regard, Wenku put forward four suggestions. First, standards come first. Standardization is the foundation for promoting 5G-A technology innovation and industrial development. China Communications Standards Association will continue to focus on key core technologies and promote the formulation of relevant standards. At the same time, the communication industry and vertical industries should work in the same direction, understand each other, adapt to each other, and work together to do a good job in 5G-A applications in vertical industries to ensure that the standard is "easy to use and feasible". The second is cross-border integration. It advocates the deep integration of 5G-A technology with vertical industries, and promotes the application of 5G-A in various fields based on the challenges faced by vertical industries in digital transformation and market application needs, and promotes the optimization of economic structure and the innovation of industrial models. Encourage the deep integration of communication technology with medical, education, transportation and other industries, and promote the transformation and upgrading of various fields of society with innovative applications. The third is coordinated advancement. We will continue to give full play to the guiding role of the government in top-level design and policy formulation, give full play to the decisive role of the market in technology research and development and industrial application, and advocate close cooperation between the government, enterprises, research institutions and users, so as to form a strong synergy to promote the development of 5G-A technology, so as to achieve high-quality development of 5G-A. Fourth, openness and cooperation. We will continue to broaden cooperation channels and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with international partners. China Communications Standards Association will work with colleagues at home and abroad to promote the development of 5G-A standards, jointly formulate fair, just and transparent international standards, ensure the unity and compatibility of technologies, and lay a solid foundation for the healthy development of global 5G-A technology. Wenku said that 5G-A is a key stage in the evolution from 5G to 6G, and the industry should use 5G-A new capabilities to drive industrial innovation and development, release the value of 5G-A with cross-border integration, and build a 5G-A innovation ecosystem with open cooperation, so as to build a more complete digital infrastructure and contribute to the development of the mainland's digital economy.
