On the morning of May 18, the 2024 Shanghai Youth Aerospace Model Championship (Jinshan Division) kicked off at the District Roller Skating Arena. Nearly 800 young athletes from 16 districts of the city signed up for the competition, and the number of registrations far exceeded expectations.
A total of 8 events were set up in the Jinshan competition area, including an upgraded rubber band powered aircraft, an indoor remote control fixed-wing mission flight, a rubber band powered helicopter, and a Yutan No. 2 parachute rocket, among which the international "S6A belt landing rocket" project in the national competition was set up for the first time in the Shanghai Youth Championships.
It is understood that the Jinshan competition area is mainly based on the aerospace competition project, the aerospace competition project is the most basic project among many aviation model projects, which requires the aviation model to complete the competition in the form of free flight without remote control equipment, and takes the empty time as the evaluation standard, and has always been known as the "simplest and most complex" aviation model project. In order to better test the level of aviation model production of the participating athletes, some projects even need to complete the assembly and debugging of the participating models on site within the specified time, which also puts forward extremely high requirements for the usual training of the participants.
It is reported that the competition is sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Sports Bureau, and jointly organized by the Shanghai Science and Technology Sports Management Center, the Shanghai Science and Technology Art Education Center, the Jinshan District Sports Bureau, the Baoshan District Sports Bureau, and the Shanghai Aviation Vehicle Model Association. There are two competition areas in Baoshan and Jinshan, including a total of 16 competitions for drones and traditional model aircraft. Except for the 4 competitions of the UAV in the Baoshan competition area, the other competitions were completed in the Jinshan competition area.
