International Museum Day
In 1977, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) announced May 18, 1977 as the first International Museum Day to the world in order to promote the healthy development of the global museum industry and attract the public to understand, participate and pay attention to the museum industry. Each year, the International Museum Day has a theme for the event, and the theme for International Museums 2024 is "Museums Committed to Education and Research".
General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that "a museum is a big school". We should devote ourselves to giving full play to the educational function of museums as cultural institutions, building museums into "second classrooms" for youth education, and actively playing an important role in educating people with culture and culture. In response to the new theme of the 2024 International Museum Day, "Museums Committed to Education and Research", the China Museum of Modern Press and Publication made full use of the resources and space of the venue to carry out the production practice of "warp folding booklets" and "dragon scale bound scrolls", so that the audience can experience the charm of traditional binding methods.
"Folding", also known as folding, appeared in the late Tang Dynasty, the long scroll was folded alternately to form a folded narrow book, "folded" is easy to learn, easy to practice. Dragon scale suit, also known as "whirlwind leaf" and "whirlwind suit". It is in the form of a long paper as the base, the first page is fully mounted and worn on the frontispiece, and from the second page, the scales are mounted to the left on the bottom volume. It is characterized by its ease of reading and the preservation of the pages. Participants can fold out the inner pages by themselves and paste them on the scrolls in order to create an artistic dragon scale scroll.

After more than three months of exhibition, the Shanghai Museum will continue to launch a series of activities on the occasion of the International Museum Day on May 18, including online lectures "Dialogue with Sanxingdui" and "Searching for the Source of Sanxingdui: From Baodun to Yuzhu Village", where famous scholars will wander in the legendary story of Sanxingdui and explore the brilliant ancient Shu civilization.
In addition, the Shanghai Museum also launched the "Star China: Sanxingdui Jinsha Ancient Shu Civilization Exhibition" workshop to show the audience the most complete, largest and best-preserved large-scale bronze mask unearthed from the Sanxingdui site, as well as a bronze head with braided hair with a gold mask, and understand the complex power structure relationship in ancient times through the crown, hairstyle and clothing of the bronze man.
