1. General Fang Xianjue's family photo

In this family photo, it is General Fang Xianjue who is wearing a military uniform. Next to him, the woman sitting on crutches was his mother, Kang. Although she is 75 years old, her mental state is not the slightest bit old-fashioned. Next to his mother is his 39-year-old wife, Zhou Yunhua.

But there are many imperfections in this photo, such as the fact that his father had died of illness at the time of the shooting. And the number of children standing in the back was not complete, and a boy was missing. According to records, he had a total of 9 children in his lifetime, 7 of whom were boys and 2 girls.

This family photo can still be talked about by many people now, and the reason for this is due to General Fang Xianjue. So what exactly did this general achieve in his life?

2. The legendary life of General Fang Xianjue

General Fang Xianjue (hereinafter referred to as General Fang), whose name is Zishan, was born in Anhui, Jiangsu Province. When he was young, he received a good family style training, and he even wanted to be a lawyer for a while.

There was a famine in his hometown, and he took out the surplus grain at home to relieve the township, and he has always had a reputation as "Fang Shanren" among his neighbors. The family's education ran through his life.

In 1924, when he was 19 years old, he was successfully admitted to the Law Department of Shanghai University of Law and Politics. In the process of studying, he came into contact with the Three People's Principles. Inspired by this thought, he decided to abandon his pen and follow Rong, and was successfully admitted to the Huangpu Military Academy the following year.

In 1926, in just one year, he graduated from here and joined He Yingqin's First Army. But with the accumulation of his achievements, his official position continued to rise, and in 1927, he had already achieved the position of major battalion commander.

After all, he was a member of the Kuomintang, so when our party rebelled in Nanchang, he led the troops to encircle our army. In this process, it is not difficult to see his military exploits. The positions of the rest of the people have changed, but he is the only one who is as secure as a rock in his position.

Despite all this, this did not affect the great achievement he left in history - defending Hengyang for 47 days.

The occurrence of this story is inseparable from the Battle of Changheng. In 1944, Japan suffered a loss in the Pacific theater and planned to transfer the battlefield to China itself, trying to open up the road between China and India in this way, which is what Japan called "Plan No. 1".

Due to Chiang Kai-shek's policy of non-resistance, Japan's march in China was like cutting tofu. According to later statistics, during these months, China lost 600,000 troops, four provincial capitals, 146 cities, seven air bases and six airfields.

These are very valuable resources, and they can show great value on the battlefield. However, Chiang Kai-shek gave them all away, which makes people feel how not to be sad.

The Japanese continued to advance, and after capturing Changsha, they continued their attack on Hengyang. Perhaps realizing his mistake, Chiang Kai-shek called in August of the same year and asked General Fang to hold on to Hengyang.

But maybe the phone signal was not good, or General Fang was too nervous, and he mistakenly heard 7 days as 47 days. And in the face of such a difficult task, he did not flinch at all.

He first considered the topographical map of the area and decided to focus the operation on the complex southwestern terrain. In the subsequent war, the correctness of this decision was indeed proven.

General Fang ordered that it was imperative to maximize the effect of every shell. The Japanese army could not be attacked for a long time, and the number of people increased to more than 210,000, and even used inhumane weapons such as poison gas bombs. Subsequently, the Japanese moved more than 100 light and heavy artillery pieces to the battlefield, and the entire city of Hengyang was reduced to ruins.

General Fang still commanded an active resistance, and any place occupied by the Japanese army had to pay a heavy price. It was in this environment that General Fang annihilated 48,000 Japanese troops and held out for 47 days.

The war ended with General Fang being captured. Naturally, this was not his original intention, after all, it was mentioned in the telegram he sent to Chongqing: he was willing to die to serve the country.

On August 8, the city of Hengyang was already running out of ammunition and food. In desperation, General Fang raised his gun and wanted to commit suicide, but was persuaded by the two comrades-in-arms next to him. And the Japanese army also took advantage of this to capture them all.

Even in prison, General Fang never forgot the people of the motherland. He was not only indifferent in the face of the enemy's beauty scheme, but also left a tragic "Ode to Zhongxiang". Although the lyrics are short, they are full of nostalgia for the people.

Seeing that this plan could not be achieved, the Japanese army came up with another plan. He tried to tie General Fang to Wang's puppet regime and preach that he had surrendered. General Fang pretended to agree, but behind his back, he was looking for a way to escape.

The time was not long in coming. From October to November 1944, General Fang and Dai Li, who escaped from the church through the secret passage, finally joined up with the main army. Chiang Kai-shek was angry at first, but eventually awarded each of them a Blue Sky and White Sun Medal.

And against what General Yu Fang did, there were also many opposing voices at that time and now. In the author's opinion, no matter what his behavior is, his original intention is for the better development of China.

On the mind, there is no trace. General Fang is undoubtedly a good son of China!

Subsequently, due to Chiang Kai-shek's tearing up of the "Double Tenth Agreement", a civil war broke out. General Fang led the troops to pick out the "pocket" designed by Liu Bocheng and avoided the annihilation of the whole army. Liu Bocheng praised him even more: "Fang Xianjue is extremely brave and cunning, he deserves to be a famous anti-Japanese general!"

The outcome of the Kuomintang's defeat in Taiwan is all too clear, and after arriving in Taiwan, General Fang developed a deep resentment towards the party he had served.

However, in 1983, he died of a sudden cerebral thrombosis at the age of 83.

After his death, his eldest son, Fang Luo, set foot on the mainland in the footsteps of his father's legacy and decided to put down roots here. After learning that he had made this decision, the government provided him with no small amount of support.

In addition to the help of the government, at the age of 80, he was determined to restore the true history of the Hengyang Defense War, and also expressed his condolences to many veterans who came down from the Hengyang battlefield.

On June 28, 2019, the old man passed away due to illness. What he did vividly showed us what the descendants of heroes are!
