Shenzhen News Network, May 17, 2024 (Reporter Tong Xiaojin) The exhibition "Listening to Doubts and Voices - Yu Feiyan's Pictorial Poetry" jointly sponsored by He Xiangning Art Museum and Beijing Fine Art Academy opened at He Xiangning Art Museum on May 16, 2024. This is another major collaboration between the two art institutions, following the 2020 "Flowing Water and High Mountains Write New Pictures: He Xiangning and the Beijing Art Scene in the New China Period" and the 2023 "Art Without Bounds: Zhou Sicong and Lu Shen Art Retrospective".

This exhibition will display about 60 pieces of Yu Feiyan's fine paintings from the collection of Beijing Fine Art Academy, and explain Yu's artistic creation through the four perspectives of "Between Mountains and Waters", "The World of Plants and Trees", "Xuanhe Old Style" and "Nonghua New Makeup", so that the audience can feel Yu Feiyan's praise for the spirit of the times and his enthusiasm for traditional art in the prosperous and magnificent flower and bird paintings.
"The History of Silent Poetry" is a unique rhetoric in the history of painting, and this "auditory aesthetic" inspired by painting has been admired by artists throughout the ages. For artists who specialize in the creation of flower and bird paintings, the plants and trees, fish, insects, and beasts in his brushes are all lifelike, and what they see is heard, and the synaesthesia that the viewer gets is a compliment to the superb artistic level of such painters. In Song Huizong's view, flower and bird painting artists are no different from poets, they can identify the complex plants and trees in the natural world, can record the color of each living being, and can also give nature a beautiful meaning.

Born in Beijing in 1889, Yu Feiyan was well-read and well-remembered, and his family was wealthy. This unique life experience contributed to Yu Feiyan's artistic choice, and also made him one of the few flower and bird artists who can inherit the legacy of Song Huizong in a relatively complete way. Yu Feiyan obtained training in style, technique and materials from classical works, drew nourishment from folk customs and crafts, broadened the themes of flowers and birds, and achieved the two peaks of "Gongbi Flowers and Birds" in the 20th century together with Chen Zhifo in the south.
