As a heavy lover of cultural museums, Luo Wei, a 38-year-old native of New Xi'an, has been doing the same for more than ten years, using tens of thousands of hours of spare time to insist on his love, and has also become a "slash youth" in the eyes of others.
When the reporter first met Luo Wei, it was an early summer morning, he was wearing a red volunteer vest and holding an iPad in his hand, shuttling through the Xi'an Museum. As long as the megaphone is on, he is always surrounded by many tourists. In Luo Wei's view, when encountering different tourists, it is necessary to explain to them in different language styles, not only to always pay attention to the changes in the expressions of tourists, but also to tailor "cultural knowledge" for them, and teach them according to their aptitude. In his words, it's called "aligning the granularity" with tourists. Because of his professional explanation and humorous language, Luo Wei has attracted the attention and love of tourists.
In 2004, Luo Wei came to Xi'an from Jingmen, Hubei Province to attend university, and his four years of college made him fall in love with this ancient city. In his opinion, Xi'an has a long history and is full of interesting historical stories. In 2005, under the recommendation of his teacher, Luo Wei used his spare time to walk into the museum with his classmates, and from then on, the seeds of cultural museums in his heart began to sprout. "I still remember that the first museum I walked into in Xi'an was the Shaanxi History Museum, because I liked history since I was a child, so I started to explain to the students on the exhibition board, which was purely a kind of mentality of play."
After graduating from university, Luo Wei chose to stay in Xi'an to work and settle down in Xi'an. In his spare time, he still likes to visit museums, read cultural and historical materials, and constantly enrich the breadth of his literary and historical knowledge with actions. Since 2011, Luo Wei has volunteered in various museums, and by the end of 2016, he had done nearly 120 issues. "At that time, the recruitment of volunteer docents for cultural museums across the country had just started, and it was mainly college student volunteers, and there were still relatively few business enthusiasts like me." At the end of the same year, seeing that the Xi'an Museum was recruiting social volunteers, Luo Wei did not hesitate to sign up. Because of his previous experience in visiting Cuba, Luo Wei's knowledge reserve is very rich, and the process of interview, assessment and internship is very smooth. In this way, Luo Wei officially became a volunteer of Xi'an Museum and officially started the life of "slash youth".
A few years ago, Luo Wei's explanation group came to a primary school student from Beijing, which left a deep impression on him. "When this child asked questions, he felt more professional and had strong expression skills, and later learned that he was a volunteer docent at the Palace Museum, and we had a lot of exchanges on the spot." After the child went home, he often consulted Luo Wei, and Luo Wei would also send some literature to the past. After receiving some small gifts from the children to him, Luo Wei was very moved. "The work we have done can plant the seeds of Wenbo for each 'back wave', and this harvest is very meaningful." Luo Wei said frankly that the future development of cultural museums belongs to the "back wave".
"If you can't finish learning, you can't finish learning at all." During the conversation, Luo Wei expressed his emotion many times, which also prompted him to continue to deepen the field of culture and museums and become one of the few "masters" in the volunteer explanation of Xi'an cultural museums. Exhibitions in museums, visits to ancient times, listening to cultural podcasts, and learning and transformation of the latest research results in new directions...... In addition to explaining in Shaanxi History Museum, Xi'an Museum, Forest of Steles Museum and other cultural relics gathering places all year round, in life, Luo Wei likes to spend most of his spare time to understand and deepen the knowledge in the field of culture and museums, and this love has also invisibly turned him from a hobbyist to an "expert docent" among volunteer docents. When giving free explanations to tourists, Luo Wei jokingly said, "Actually, my explanation is very expensive, worth 5,000 yuan a day", "Cultural relics are priceless, but knowledge is valuable."
Luo Wei said that he has lost count of the volunteer service hours, but since the electronic check-in was launched in 2019, Luo Wei's electronic record of service time has reached 1,400 hours, which is very rare for him to have a formal job. Almost every weekend and holiday, Luo Wei finds time to go to the museum to explain. Striving for the position of a volunteer in the museum, he has gained a series of honors, making Luo Wei also well-known in the cultural and museum circles. In Luo Wei's view, cultural and museum volunteer service is not only a one-way knowledge output, but also to improve one's own knowledge level and understanding and perception of museum culture.
Only love can last a long time. "Every time I visit Cuba and participate in volunteer service, it is like a wandering between history and reality, and I gradually discover that in addition to work and firewood, rice, oil and salt, there are also poems and distant places. Witnessing the collision of different times, spaces and civilizations, I became more aware of my own insignificance and the weight of human history. Luo Wei said.
May 18 is International Museum Day, and this year's theme, "Museums Committed to Education and Research", is particularly in line with Luo Wei's life and work. "Based on the latest research results, it is particularly important to express your own explanations in museums and classroom education better and more deeply." At the same time, based on archaeology and documents, there will be a lot of uncertainties or other possibilities, and when explaining, Luo Wei will tell the audience what these analyses are, when and whose opinion thinks this is, so as to leave room for the audience to think.
"But for the views, historical facts and research results that have been recognized and recognized by the industry, I must tell visitors with great certainty, because the volunteers represent the museum, and we must correctly and clearly disseminate the results of research and education." Luo Wei also often thinks about what kind of way to make education play a greater role and make more tourists fall in love with Wenbo, and he hopes that more and more people will like Wenbo and fall in love with Wenbo because of his explanations.
