On May 14, the Tuoqiao Street Care and Assistance Station joined forces with the Longjing Care and Assistance Room, the Xincheng Care and Assistance Room, and the Niuerqiao Community Care and Assistance Point to jointly carry out a Disability Day activity with the theme of "Love and Harmony", and the citizens of the jurisdiction can understand the living conditions of the disabled through interactive experiences and other means. Professional social workers also brought care and blessings to 28 disabled people through home care and condolences and inclusive discussions, further enhancing everyone's attention and support for the disabled group, understanding the needs and challenges of the disabled, and promoting the better integration of the disabled into society.

Experience to get to know each other

The interactive session was praised by residents

Among the interactive experiences of the day, the most eye-catching were the blind road experience and the wheelchair experience. In the Braille Experience Area, participants are blindfolded, holding sticks, and groping their way on the Braille Path. For the first time, many residents have deeply experienced the inconveniences and challenges of the visually impaired in their daily lives, and it is difficult to keep the right direction for the seemingly simple wheelchair experience.

"I almost fell down when I experienced the blind road, and it was really not easy to understand their lives more deeply the more I knew."

"This kind of experience is very meaningful and helps us to help them more effectively." Citizens who participated in the experience said.

On-site volunteers also distributed brochures to residents, publicized policies such as the guide for handling disability certificates, the guide for rehabilitation and assistance for disabled children, and the application for assistive devices for the disabled, and encouraged residents to actively participate in the disability knowledge prize quiz and enhance their understanding of relevant knowledge.

Helped for six years in a row

They face life positively

"I couldn't go out because of my disability, Mr. Li would push me out 1-2 times a week for 6 years, and I am very grateful to him for allowing me to see the outside world." At the symposium organized by the neighborhood, Uncle Cui, a disabled person, talked about the volunteer Teacher Li's free help to him. Other representatives of persons with disabilities also shared the support and help they received from their families, friends, policies, social environment, etc., and said that they would face their future life positively with the care and support of all parties.

In the theme activity of Helping the Disabled, the social workers of Tuoqiao Street also joined hands with volunteers in the jurisdiction to go deep into 12 families with disabilities in difficulty in the Xincheng community to carry out home condolences, listen to their voices and understand their needs. At the symposium for the disabled, the social worker intimately explained the relevant policies for them, such as the two subsidies for the disabled, how to apply for and handle long-term care insurance, etc., to promote their understanding of the policies.

"The success of this Disability Day not only promotes community residents to have a deeper understanding of the life of the disabled group and the importance of barrier-free facilities, but also promotes the public's attention to the rights and interests of the disabled, and strives to jointly build a more inclusive, equal and inclusive social environment." The relevant person in charge of the Tuoqiao Street Care and Aid Station said.
