This incident happened in a family surnamed Lin in Fuzhou, whose family conditions were above well-off and had a good life. The one who attacked a one-year-old baby was the eldest aunt Wang Yao. Mao's father's death was also caused by her poisoning. Lin Jianwei was poisoned because he was dissatisfied with his mother-in-law for giving the store to his uncle, and Ah Mao was poisoned because his sister-in-law Yang Zao wrote her name on the property rights of the store.
Wang Yao was furious and wanted to destroy the family. She searched the Internet many times for information related to drugs such as thallium nitrate and colchicine. Thallium is a slow-onset highly toxic substance, which is colorless and odorless when dissolved in water, and cannot be tasted even when mixed with boiled water.
In November 2021, Wang Yao first spent 465 yuan to buy 3 grams of colchicine online, and tried it, but the taste was too bitter and easy to detect. Later, she saw a case of thallium poisoning on a video website, so she went to buy thallium nitrate and prepared to do it.
At the end of January 2022, Wang Yao followed her husband back to her hometown for the New Year, and when she first returned home, she didn't find the opportunity to be poisoned, and later heard that her mother-in-law was going to hold a birthday banquet for Ah Mao, and she was furious, so she shifted the target to Ah Mao, who was only 1 year old.
On February 4, 2022, Wang Yao took advantage of the fact that there was no one at home and put thallium nitrate into the can of Amao milk powder. Ah Mao is too young, even if it is a slow-onset poisonous substance, the reaction is very strong. After drinking the milk powder, Ah Mao had symptoms of diarrhea and fever. Her family rushed her to a children's hospital for treatment.
Ah Mao, who was sent to the hospital, fell into a deep coma and was officially diagnosed a week after entering the PICU. After learning that it was thallium nitrate poisoning, thallium has an antidote, but the antidote Prussian blue is very rare, and the family quickly posted an article on the Internet to ask for medicine, and finally with the help of enthusiastic netizens, they got a few bottles of antidote.
After the hospital found out that it was thallium poisoning, it immediately informed the family that it was most likely artificially poisoned, but the Lin family did not believe this statement at all, and the hospital called the police to deal with it. After receiving the report, the police quickly inspected Ah Mao's food and clothing supplies, and simultaneously investigated the suspect.
Thallium was detected in Amao blood, Yangzao blood, feeding bottles, milk powder, etc., and the same ingredient was also detected in the toilet of Wang Yao's home, and the police quickly locked up the suspect. In the early morning of February 28, Wang Yao was arrested at his residence.
Wang Yao initially denied poisoning, but only after seeing the evidence did he admit to attacking Ah Mao.
The police found out that the accidental death of Ah Mao's father, Lin Jianwei, half a year ago, seemed to be full of mysteries. Until June, Lin Jianwei had gastrointestinal problems from time to time. On June 25, Lin Jianwei ate crayfish and drank beer at home, and the next day he had diarrhea and was beaten incessantly. When I went to the hospital, I was treated as appendicitis, and the treatment did not help.

After Wang Yao confided in the incident, the police quickly tested Lin Jianwei's ashes and called up the test results of his retained blood samples. According to the test report, thallium was not detected in Lin Jianwei's ashes, and a lethal amount of colchicine was detected in his blood. Lin Jianwei died of multiple organ failure caused by colchicine poisoning.
The examination report shows that Lin Jianwei was likely to have been poisoned a second time before his death, and although Wang Yao himself did not admit that there was a second poisoning, his statement was not enough to be used as evidence when compared with the sufficient test report. Ah Mao's poisoning incident, Wang Yao also forcibly debated, she accidentally shook all the thallium nitrate into the milk powder can, and thought that Ah Mao would die if she ate these, so she dug out more than half of it. In September 2023, the Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court sentenced Wang Yao to death for intentional homicide in the first instance and demanded that he pay more than 700,000 yuan in compensation. Wang Yao's jealousy caused Lin Jianwei's death. Lin Jianwei's one-year-old daughter A Mao, although she saved a life, she suffered from serious sequelae such as quadriplegia. It was determined that Ah Mao belonged to the category of first-degree disability.
One year after the poisoning incident, Ah Mao still has a large number of sequelae, and the hospital confirmed that he has severe pneumonia, sequelae of toxic encephalopathy, symptomatic epilepsy and other diseases. While serving his sentence, the murderer still refused to accept the appeal, arguing that he was not guilty of death. In April 2024, the second-instance trial of this case will be held, and the result has not yet been announced.
