Bugatti often presents a variety of special edition models, from the Veyron Grand Sport with porcelain elements to the exquisite gold W16 Mistral Special Edition. Bugatti's latest special edition is noticeably smaller, though, as it's the Baby II Type 35 Centennial Edition.
Created in collaboration with The Little Car Company, the car was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Type 35's debut at the Grand Prix de Lyon in 1924. Although the Type 35 did not win the championship in that race, Bugatti noted that "the Type 35 became the most successful car in history with more than 2,500 victories and podiums over the next decade." ”
Based on the top-of-the-line Baby II Pur Sang, this new special edition model features a hand-crafted aluminium body with a livery inspired by six Type 35 race cars. As a result, they have a Bleu de Lyon exterior with white race numbers hand-painted on the radiators, hood and rear.
Inside, you'll find black leather seats, a wood-framed steering wheel, and a carefully finished instrument cluster with a brass identification plate. The chassis number on this identification plate matches the number found in the original Type 35 race car.
The 75 percent smaller vehicles are equipped with a 2.8 kWh battery pack and an electric motor capable of delivering up to 13 hp (equivalent to 10 kW or 14 metric hp). Although this may not seem like a big power figure, for such a small electric car, the top speed can already reach 68 km/h.
The car is limited to six units, and all of them have been sold to private collectors worldwide. According to Wiebke Ståhl, General Manager of Bugatti International, the limited edition models are meticulously detailed, with each one customised to the individual needs of the customer. These models not only reflect the Bugatti brand's deep racing heritage, but also showcase an unrivalled level of craftsmanship. They are all one-of-a-kind works of art that embody the spirit of the Type 35 race car.
