Digital Foundry's technical experts have analyzed the latest round of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks, focusing on the 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM that the new opportunity is said to be carrying. This will be a major upgrade to the original Switch RAM, which is a big bottleneck for the vast majority of games.

Even if the host's RAM is not running at full capacity, it can provide more bandwidth to the processor. The 12GB of RAM will also allow the console to upgrade the resolution with NVIDIA DLSS, a feature that consumes a lot of memory, as textures need to reach the output resolution to get the best results. This will address the low image quality of the current generation console in dock mode for some games, mainly multi-platform games. It may offer better texture quality than XSS with 10GB of RAM, but overall performance is unlikely to be comparable.
