At 05:10 on May 15, a China Eastern Airlines Airbus A320neo passenger plane took off from the new North Second Runway of the third phase expansion project of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport, and the aircraft landed smoothly after 1 hour and 24 minutes, marking the complete success of the test flight of the new North Second Runway.
It is understood that the new North Second Runway is 3,800 meters long and 45 meters wide, which is the first runway to be completed and put into operation in the third phase of the expansion project, and is scheduled to be officially put into operation in September this year. The new North 2nd Runway is a smart runway, and intelligent monitoring equipment such as floor sensors are set up to monitor the runway operation status, whether it settles, whether it is waterlogged, and whether there are foreign objects around the clock, so as to ensure the safety of runway operation and improve management efficiency.
Zhou Jun, a senior flight instructor of the Northwest Branch of China Eastern Airlines, a member of the crew who undertook the test flight mission, said that the test flight verified the approach procedures and go-around procedures of the North Second Runway, and checked the working conditions of the runway's lighting signs and navigation stations, and the results showed that the verification indicators were normal and in line with industry standards.
The successful test flight is another key node for the new North Second Runway to be put into operation after the verification flight and completion acceptance, so far, the new North Second Runway has entered the final "closing" stage, and after its official operation, it will play a good supporting role in the improvement of the take-off and landing flights and passenger throughput of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport.
