Kornilov's Rebellion: Far beyond the scale of the Wagner Rebellion, it invisibly made a wedding dress for Soviet Russia

author:Jianghu Xiaoxiaosheng

The Wagner rebellion had a profound impact on Russia, but it was quietly put down. As a result, the rebel leader Chef Pu disappeared completely, and the people who ate melons had just picked up the melons and were about to eat them with relish, but they found that the melons were gone!

Everything is changing too fast, and everyone hasn't reacted, it can be said that Chef Pu has completely done a bad end of the century, after all, compared with the break, the bad end is more of a headache.

In fact, as early as more than 100 years, similar things happened in Russia, and both the momentum and the ending far exceeded the Wagner rebellion. Although, this is also a bad project, and this project is the Kornilov Rebellion.

Kornilov experienced two major battles that could change the fate of Russia

Kornilov was born in an ordinary Cossack family in Western Siberia, Cossack origin, and naturally shouldered the heavy responsibility of defending his family and country in Russia, his father was a lieutenant, and he himself inherited his father's business and entered the military circle.

However, the era in which he lived did not seem to be friendly, and the smell of war was everywhere. This is both a danger and an opportunity for soldiers.

In particular, their mad Tsar Nicholas II had to fight not only in the East, but also in the West against Austria-Hungary, and Kornilov participated in the vast majority of the wars of that era that directly changed the fate of Russia.

First, it was prominent in the Russo-Japanese War from 1904 to 1905

In 1892, Kornilov, who graduated from the military school, was soon sent to serve in Turkestan in Central Asia. Since then, he has served in Poland, Turkey and other places, and his resume is relatively full.

During his time in Central Asia, Tsarist Russia had been coveting China's Xinjiang region, so Kornilov also paid close attention to the Xinjiang issue, and even infiltrated Xinjiang many times to investigate, writing a book called "Kashgar and Turkestan" in 1901.

What really changed Kornilov's fate was the Russo-Japanese War that broke out in 1904. Both sides invested more than 1 million men, including almost all of their naval forces, but it ended in a crushing defeat for Tsarist Russia.

Kornilov, however, was at odds with the fate of his country, and he himself was promoted for his courage and bravery in this war.

Second, he became a national hero in the First World War

The Russo-Japanese War was defeated, but Nicholas II did not learn his lesson, and he still wanted to recover his losses by war. Therefore, in 1914, despite the opposition of everyone, he resolutely chose to declare war on Austria-Hungary, thus participating in the First World War.

The reason is ironic and old-fashioned, because the Balkans are all their Slavic compatriots, and if Austria-Hungary wants to occupy the Balkans, Tsarist Russia naturally wants to protect their Slavic compatriots.

But Nicholas II never weighed whether his country still had the strength to continue to participate in the war? This is nothing more than Nicholas II's desire to save face lost in the Russo-Japanese War.

At that time, Kornilov had already served as a divisional cadre, and because he himself was good at defense, the troops he brought out were known as the Iron Division. This may also be doomed to his end, after all, a person who is good at defense is difficult to break through in attack.

It's a pity that the general environment is like this, and the tide of the battle is not something that a small division commander of Kornilov can turn around. Therefore, he was still captured by the Germans.

Kornilov's legendary life began when he escaped from a prisoner of war camp and returned to Russia without incident. The tsar was overjoyed and directly promoted it as a national hero. And he himself was successfully promoted to army commander and continued to lead the team to fight.

After the February Revolution, it escalated like a rocket

It can be said that Kornilov is known to the majority of Russians only because the tsar personally received him, awarded him the Medal of Hero, and let the media make him a national hero.

Therefore, it is basically impossible for Kornilov to get rid of the imprint of the Tsarist era. And the Tsar's kindness to him, he will never forget.

However, it is still the same sentence, it is difficult for him to change the overall situation, even if he was already a military commander at that time, but he still could not change the fact that Tsarist Russia was unpopular and was heading for destruction.

After the fall of Tsarist Russia, Soviet Russia did not immediately come to the forefront, and between the February Revolution and the October Revolution, a bourgeois provisional government came to power. Most of the top officials of the Provisional Government were from the Tsarist era.

Thus, Kornilov also became a member of the bourgeois provisional government. Because they were desperate for some prestigious officers to help them counter the power of Soviet Russia, Kornilov became the target of the bourgeois Provisional Government.

After the February Revolution, he was appointed commander of the Petrograd Military District at the beginning, three months later he was appointed commander of the Eighth Army, promoted to general of infantry, and another month later he was appointed commander of the Southwestern Front.

The rocket-like upgrade instantly transformed Kornilov from a middle-level officer who could not change the overall situation to a high-ranking officer who could change the fate of Russia.

Because of his vigorous and methodical approach to resolving the rebellion, on July 19, 1917, Kornilov was directly appointed by the bourgeois Provisional Government as the supreme commander of the Russian army. Well, in just a few months, this old brother has directly reached the top.

The Kornilov rebellion was most likely an accident

The speed of Kornilov's promotion was indeed staggering, mainly because Kerensky, the head of the bourgeois Provisional Government, relied on his good relationship with Kornilov and hoped to cultivate a big figure with a decisive position in the Russian army, so as to balance the relationship between the bourgeois Provisional Government and Soviet Russia.

At that time, although the bourgeois provisional government had the supreme ruling power, Soviet Russia had a lot of right to speak, and for a long time, it was constrained by Soviet Russia, and they could not do many things. This is also where Kornilov is more troubled, how can there be two voices in a country to issue orders?

After Kornilov was promoted to the supreme commander of the Russian army, the power in his hands was enough to change the fate of Russia. He therefore began to be very dissatisfied with the weakness of the bourgeois Provisional Government, and in his opinion it was necessary to take a very tough attitude towards Soviet Russia and, if necessary, to mobilize the army to bring them into real submission to the feet of the bourgeois Provisional Government.

However, before Kornilov could make a move, a huge change changed his fate and that of Russia as a whole.

On September 7, not knowing what wind was pumping, Kornilov, under the pretext of protecting the capital, marched directly to Petrograd with the Third Army. At the same time, he demanded that Kerensky and his friends resign en masse, be laid off and go home unemployed, and all power in the DPRK and China must be handed over to the supreme military commander, that is, Kornilov himself.

This can make Kerensky stunned, he never expected that the big backer he had worked so hard to support would actually sell himself at a critical moment.

However, Kerensky was not a vegetarian either, and on September 10, he immediately announced the dismissal of Kornilov from all positions, defined his actions as a rebellion, and called on everyone to rise up against Kornilov's rebellion.

In order to solve the Kornilov rebellion, Kerensky even personally ran to ask Soviet Russia to come to help. It has to be said that Soviet Russia was very strong in its organizational ability, and they immediately gathered a group of people to destroy the railway, control public opinion, form a national defense front, and even sent people to talk directly to Kornilov, which was equivalent to controlling everything in Petrograd. This laid the groundwork for the success of the October Revolution that followed.

Kornilov's rebellion was so hasty that he didn't even muster enough troops, and his men didn't know why they were marching into the capital. Under the influence of public opinion in Soviet Russia, many soldiers realized that they were following their commanders in rebellion!

Good guys, all of a sudden the soldiers in Kornilov's army were in an uproar, especially those who had already arrived at the front line in the capital, and immediately turned against the water and chose to draw a line with Kornilov.

The fortress was most afraid of being breached from the inside, and the already unreliable Kornilov group, because of the backlash of the front-line army, immediately collapsed. So the rebellion was put down in such a mess, and Kornilov himself was arrested by the bourgeois Provisional Government.

Why did Kornilov fail

It can be said that this is a rebellion without warning, without planning, without strength, without discipline, and it is similar to the Wagner rebellion, which naturally has no chance of victory, and can only lead to failure.

  • First of all, Kornilov himself was the supreme commander of the army that the bourgeois Provisional Government had forcibly propped up in just a few months. His prestige is not worthy of his status, and when virtue is not worthy of his position, many people disobey him.
  • Secondly, the Kornilov rebellion was not well planned at all, it was purely thought of and done. This is not a trip, so how can you just go?
  • In addition, in Kornilov's hands, he did not have the kind of public opinion propaganda methods of Soviet Russia, and in front of Soviet Russia, he was a younger brother. Soviet Russia can directly turn this former national hero into a moth in society through the saliva of public opinion. He didn't have the power to fight back at all.
  • Moreover, Kornilov still had a soft spot for the bourgeois Provisional Government, and did not wish to expand the war, otherwise he would have ordered an invasion of Petrograd in the shortest possible time, and there would be no room for any response from other organizations.

It didn't matter if Kornilov was defeated, the point was that the people were completely disillusioned with the bourgeois Provisional Government. After all, this big guy was personally supported by him, and it almost caused a new civil war, so is this worth it? For this reason, everyone began to support the rise of Soviet Russia, which directly affected the outcome of the October Revolution one month later.
