Middlesex District Attorneys said an MBTA commuter rail train on the Framingham/Worcester line hit two people and killed them during their commute Monday afternoon.
Natick police said they are working with MBTA police on a train hit on a commuter rail near Washington Avenue. The incident caused all commuter rail service on the line to be suspended for several hours.
The accident occurred during a busy evening commute between the Natick Center and West Natick. Traffic police investigators and Koollis personnel spent hours on the tracks, taking measurements and photographs of the accident site and trying to piece together the entire course of the incident.
A spokesman for the Middlesex District Attorney's Office said there was "no suspicion of murder" and that the victim died at the scene from his injuries.
The tracks run parallel to the children's bike park, where some of them witnessed a terrible tragedy unfolding.
Multiple witnesses said a woman was near the railroad tracks when a man on a bicycle tried to help her.
An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, described the scene. "The woman in the accident fell near the tracks, and the male victim helped pick up her backpack and tried to pick her up, and then suddenly, the train hit them and the accident happened."
"Trains on the Framingham/Worcester line will experience significant delays in both directions due to reconnaissance work by police in the Natick area," the MBTA said on its website. ”
The track reopened around 8 p.m. with full service, MBTA said.
