Tetrazolium fenamide is a new type of o-carboxamidobenzamide insecticide developed by Bayer, which was successfully introduced into the insecticide by Bayer for the first time in the world. This makes tetrazoles, which is a new type of insecticide that also contains tetrazolium structure in the bisamide insecticide.

First, the mechanism of action

In terms of mechanism of action, tetrazolfenamide is a muscle agent that acts on insect ichthydine receptors. Ichonedine receptors are selective ion channels that regulate the orderly release of intracellular calcium ions, that is, tetrameric channel proteins that regulate the balance of intracellular calcium ion concentration. After the high affinity binding of tetrazolfenamide to the insect ichthydine receptor, the Ca2+ release channel will continue to open, which will make the release of calcium ions stored in smooth muscle and striated muscle cells uncontrolled and lost, resulting in paralysis of muscle cell contraction function and thus the purpose of killing insects.

2. Registration

In terms of registration, Bayer has carried out in-depth application research and development of tetrazolfenamide-related preparation products, and has submitted registration applications in many countries. Since its launch in 2020, tetrazolfenamide has been registered and marketed in many countries such as Zimbabwe, South Korea, Cambodia, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, the United States, and Japan. In terms of domestic registration, according to the inquiry of China Pesticide Information Network, 3 tetrazolium antamide products, 1 original drug and 2 preparations have been registered in the mainland, the details are as follows:

3. Patents: Chinese Patent: CN102317279B (ZL200980156969.5), application date: December 9, 2009, expires on December 8, 2029, patent name: anthramide replaced by tetrazolium as an insecticide.

Fourth, the market prospects

Compared with other bisamide insecticides, tetrazolpyroxamide has a unique chemical structure, and can be applied to crops such as rice, corn, soybean, potato, fruits, vegetables, tobacco, tea, nuts, ornamental flowers, lawns and trees, etc., and the control of pests includes lepidoptera, coleoptera, hemiptera, tasseloptera, diptera and orthoptera, and mainly occult pests such as leaf roller moth, leaf miner, heartworm and leaf miner fly. Bayer said it is confident in the future market for tetrazoles, with Phillips McDougall forecasting peak annual sales of tetrazolesamide to reach $500 million.
