Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, May 15 (Reporter Wang Jingyu) The 2024 Tsai Chongxin Basketball Scholarship was announced a few days ago, and Wang Ziming from Miyun No. 3 Middle School (junior high school) is one of the six young players who won the scholarship. More than 20 years ago, Wang Ziming's father came to Beijing from Harbin. Now, Wang Ziming will set off from Miyun in a few months to the American town of Woodstock across the ocean to chase his basketball dream.

Wang Ziming was born in December 2008, his second aunt is 1.82 meters tall, plays basketball well, and was admitted to the Capital Institute of Physical Education through basketball expertise from Miyun No. 2 Middle School that year. When Wang Ziming was young, his family often told the story of his second aunt playing, which increased his interest in basketball.

However, Wang Ziming practiced football when he first entered elementary school. In the second semester of the third grade, his father asked him to switch to basketball. Wang Ziming's parents are 1.83 meters tall and 1.73 meters tall, and he has grown to 1.80 meters in the sixth grade of primary school, which proves his father's vision and also attracts the attention of Zhang Hongbin, the basketball coach of Miyun No. 2 Middle School (High School).

Zhang Hongbin has been rooted in the front line for many years and has built Miyun No. 2 Middle School into a strong team in high school basketball, and he is very optimistic about Wang Ziming's physical condition and potential. After going to Miyun No. 3 Middle School for junior high school, Wang Ziming went to Miyun No. 2 Middle School to train with Zhang Hongbin after class on weekdays, and trained in Miyun No. 3 Middle School on weekends.

Wang Ziming said: "Mr. Zhang likes me very much and has put a lot of energy into me. He taught me to play and how to be a person, and what he usually said the most was 'to behave in a standardized manner, to play outstandingly, and to be qualified in learning'. ”

At the beginning of 2022, Wang Ziming has a new basketball guide. Wang Limin, principal of Miyun No. 3 Middle School, vigorously promoted the development of basketball in the school, and invited Gao Lianlian, the former Chinese women's basketball player, to serve as the special coach of the men's basketball team of Miyun No. 3 Middle School. Every weekend, Gao drove from downtown Beijing to Miyun to mentor Wang Ziming and his teammates.

Coincidentally, Gao Lianlian's daughter Wang Furui is one of the first winners of the Tsai Chongxin Basketball Scholarship. Today, Wang Furui has graduated from Sierra Canyon High School, won a full basketball scholarship from Northwestern University in the United States, and has also been selected for the U18 national youth women's basketball training list.

In the process of coaching the team, Gao Lianlian introduced the Tsai Chongxin Basketball Scholarship to the players and encouraged them to try boldly. Wang Ziming signed up for the selection for the class of 2023, but failed to pass the primary selection at that time.

Under the careful guidance of Gao Lianhuan, Wang Ziming's skills have been further improved, and he won the fourth place in the 2023 Beijing Youth Championship (Group B) with the team, and has scored 34 points and 15 rebounds in a single game. In the selection of the 2024 Tsai Chongxin Basketball Scholarship, Wang Ziming, who signed up again, was successfully shortlisted for the training camp stage and finally stood out.

The jury commented on Wang Ziming: "He played well in the actual combat confrontation in the training camp, with a high individual singles success rate, solid skills, and the ability to use simple and efficient techniques to create scoring opportunities. He is not stage frightened in the game, can take the initiative to take on the offensive responsibility at critical moments, and make the right offensive choices. ”

The 1.94-meter-tall Wang Ziming plays as a striker, and his favorite stars are Haliburton and Edwards. Wang Ziming feels that his advantage is that he has the spirit of fighting for every ball on the field, and the shortcoming is defense, and he needs to lower the center of gravity in defense.

This fall, Wang will attend Woodstock Academy, playing ball and going to school at the same time.

"I want to follow the example of Gao Dao's daughter, train hard first, and then work hard step by step towards a higher stage."

Before the age of 16, he was going to go far away, and Wang Ziming knew that his parents' feelings would be a little complicated. "I should be a little reluctant, but my parents respect my ideas and hope that I can meet a wider world and more powerful people."

Wang Limin said that the selection process of this scholarship had a great impact on Wang Ziming, and he was like a different person. "Whether it is study or life, seeing his cheerful and optimistic smile and resolute eyes, I think it is this selection that makes him sunny and confident. When it comes to the future, he shows his inner firmness. At the same time, I also felt the warmth of the child's heart. He is not only more confident, but also more grateful, and has matured a lot all of a sudden. From his changes, I also see the power of sports to shape personality. ”

Gao Lianhuan is also very happy that this disciple has embarked on the road of studying abroad in basketball like his daughter. In her opinion, the vision, insight and all-round development of children may be more important than how high they can ultimately achieve in basketball, which is one of the attractions of the Joe Tsai Basketball Scholarship.

"We are from competitive sports backgrounds, and we know how fierce and cruel the competition and selection of talents in competitive sports is. Of course, we hope that the children can go higher and further on the road of basketball, but we also hope that they will have a richer experience and experience of basketball, sports and life. ”

With the imminent departure of the country, Wang Ziming has already learned from Wang Furui and is trying to prepare for the challenges ahead.

"She was catching up on English before she went abroad, and I've been doing it lately. She said that after she went, there was a period of time when everything went well, and it would be much better when she crossed this hurdle. Hopefully, I can get used to the rhythm as soon as possible, study academically and basketball as soon as possible, and try to play in the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) in college. Wang Ziming said.
