Syngenta Group relies on ADEPIDYN® technology

author:PR sees the world with its eyes

With ADEPIDYN® technology, Syngenta Group strengthens its leading position in the global biocide industry

  • Less than eight years after commercialization, ADEPIDYN® technology is on track to become Syngenta's first crop protection active ingredient to achieve billion-dollar annual sales
  • Since its registration in the UK, the breakthrough technology is now used by farmers in 55 countries around the world, including China
  • The commercial success of this technology underscores Syngenta's innovation leadership, not only in the field of succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor fungicides (SDHI-based fungicides), but also in its ability to bring green and sustainable super-sized products to market

Basel, Switzerland – EQS Newswire – May 9, 2024 – Syngenta Group, one of the world's largest agritech companies, is strengthening its leadership in the field of fungicides with the success of its patented ADEPIDYN® technology, a trademark for the active ingredient fluazole hydroxylamine. Following a recent successful registration in the UK, this powerful fungicide technology is now available to farmers in 55 countries around the world, and sales of the product are strong on all continents, demonstrating the urgent need for farmers to effectively control a wide range of crop diseases. ANNUAL SALES OF ADEPIDYN-BASED® PRODUCTS ARE EXPECTED TO REACH $1 BILLION, MARKING THE FIRST MILESTONE FOR THE COMPANY'S ACTIVE INGREDIENT IN JUST EIGHT YEARS.

Ioana Tudor, Head of Global Crop Protection Marketing, Syngenta Group, said: "ADEPIDYN® is a breakthrough technology that helps farmers achieve sustainable farming. "ADEPIDYN® technology is an important milestone in our efforts to ensure high crop yields while reducing our environmental impact, and its high level of stability and effectiveness is an exciting achievement." We are proud that our innovations have had such a positive impact. "

It is estimated that 10%-23% of global crops are lost each year due to fungal diseases, and another 10%-20% is lost after harvest. In the case of five major crops – rice, wheat, maize, soybeans and potatoes – it is estimated that the yield loss caused by fungal infections could feed at least 600 million people for at least a year.

ADEPIDYN® technology offers a new solution to effectively combat wheat scab, a mycotoxin that contaminates harvested crops and threatens human and animal health. In addition, as a broad-spectrum fungicide technology, it has a significant control effect on many important diseases, such as wheat leaf blight and barley net spot. ADEPIDYN® technology has been widely used in more than 100 crops such as grains, corn, soybeans, rape, vegetables, fruit trees, etc.

At the heart of Syngenta Group's new sustainability focus, unveiled in April this year, the Group's commitment to sustainable innovation is also reflected in ADEPIDYN® technology. Its good efficacy and long-lasting activity can reduce the use rate and potential use, especially for the prevention and control of leaf spot, while not harming beneficial organisms. It is also an important tool for resistance management. This technology prevents the fungus from getting the energy it needs to survive by inhibiting an enzyme that is necessary for fungal respiration. It adheres to the surface of the crop and quickly penetrates into the leaf surface, forming a reserve of active ingredients in the waxy layer of the crop tissue, allowing it to be evenly distributed and provide long-lasting protection during plant growth.

This technology further highlights Syngenta's success in the SDHI (succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor) mode of action and its ability to effectively design plant protection active ingredients to help farmers meet a variety of challenges. After the launch of the first SDHI-based seed coating agent, sedaxane, Syngenta launched an SDHI-based fungicide, isopyrazam, to enhance farmers' ability to prevent and control rice sheath blight, and later launched SOLATENOL® technology to protect crops from leaf blight and rust. IN BRAZIL, THE SOLIRONOL® TECHNOLOGY HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED AS A KEY TOOL IN THE CONTROL OF SOYBEAN POD ANOMALIES – A NEW FUNGAL DISEASE THAT HAS SPREAD TO 12 STATES IN BRAZIL IN JUST THREE YEARS SINCE IT WAS FIRST DISCOVERED.

In addition to R&D and innovation, Syngenta's success lies in its investment in advanced production processes. Driven by strong global demand, Syngenta is investing to increase the efficiency of ADEPIDYN® technology and accelerate the market launch of a wide range of ADEPIDYN-based® formulations to meet the specific needs of different markets.

SYNGENTA'S LATEST INNOVATION IN THE FIELD OF SDHI FUNGICIDES IS THE TYMIRIUM® TECHNOLOGY, WHICH WAS LAUNCHED GLOBALLY IN 2022. It provides broad-spectrum control against plant parasitic nematodes while protecting crops from key fungal diseases. According to statistics, such parasitic nematodes can reduce global crop yields by about 12% per year.
