1. Bloody lies are brewing
In 1967, the People's Republic of China was entering a critical period of comprehensive development. In order to speed up the pace of construction in the western region, the party and the government are vigorously building water conservancy, transportation, and other infrastructure facilities. A corner of Yongdeng in Gansu Province, famous for the construction of the Datong River Bridge. This bridge, which carries great hopes, is the lifeblood of the local villagers.
Liu Xuebao, who was 26 years old at the time, was a hot-blooded young man, and his revolutionary passion was burning in his chest. Since he was a child, he has cherished the dream of becoming a hero who will one day make outstanding contributions to the country and its people. However, his mediocre background and monotonous military career doomed him to spend his life in obscurity.
Just when Liu Xuebao felt confused and hesitant about the future, a dark thought gradually grew in his heart. He began to covet the high honors and preferential treatment enjoyed by those heroes, and his heart, once hypnotized by idealism, actually hiberned the ambition of power and fame.
At this moment, Li Shibai, a forest ranger from a nearby forest farm, inadvertently broke into Liu Xuebao's field of vision. Li Shibai served in the Kuomintang army, and although he has made his political choices anew, he is still stigmatized and suspected of being a "counter-revolutionary" in the eyes of some.
At the stroke of a thought, Liu Xuebao began to secretly plan a scam, intending to realize his dream by forging heroic deeds. And poor Li Shibai was firmly targeted by this dark plan and became the object of sacrifice. Under the cover of darkness, a sinful lie was conceived and conceived.
Second, the terrifying drama is staged in the dark night

Liu Xuebao then quickly evacuated to a safe distance, and when the explosives exploded, his left hand was unfortunately injured.
The sound of the explosion alarmed the surrounding villagers, and people ran out of their homes, frightened by the scene in front of them. At this moment, Liu Xuebao began to carry out his elaborate plan---- He pretended to be injured, lay under the bridge and shouted for help, blaming Li Shibai for the crime, saying that the other party was a "counter-revolutionary" and intended to blow up the bridge.
The villagers listened to Liu Xuebao's lies and rushed forward one after another, controlling the seriously injured Li Shibai and taking him away. In this way, under the cover of the night, a horrific conspiracy was successfully staged, waiting for it to be sung in the next chapter.
3. The truth has nothing to do with hypocritical "merits"
As the lies continue to be unraveled, a fictional hero image quickly emerges across the country. Liu Xuebao was soon awarded the glorious title of People's Hero by virtue of his meticulously directed deeds of "Saving the Bridge".
On January 10, 1968, the Lanzhou Military Region first solemnly commended Liu Xuebao, awarded him first-class merit, and promoted him to instructor. In their award speech, the leaders of the military region praised Liu Xuebao for "bravely blocking the conspiracy of counter-revolutionaries at the expense of his flesh and blood" and for "composing a heroic chapter that can be sung and cried with his mutilated body."
Such a high evaluation undoubtedly greatly satisfied Liu Xuebao's vanity, and he pursued his deception without mercy. Soon, the "People's Liberation Army Daily" published an article of thousands of words, vividly reproducing Liu Xuebao's heroic deeds of "saving the bridge".
Under the hype of the report, Liu Xuebao's name began to be widely circulated at home and abroad. He is often invited to participate in various large-scale events, speak on stage, and share his "heroic experience". At that time, many soldiers and people were deeply moved by the speech of this "disabled soldier" and expressed their desire to learn from him.
What is even more absurd is that as false deeds have become common throughout the country, the relevant content has been directly compiled into the textbooks of primary school students of the People's Education Publishing House, and has become a model of patriotic education. In return, as long as Liu Xuebao was able to successfully carry out the bridge bombing plot, the Kuomintang reactionaries promised to give him a very high status and honor after the overthrow of the new regime. This undoubtedly further ignited the fuse of Liu Xuebao's ambitions.
In order to achieve his goal, Liu Xuebao did not hesitate to schem, not only luring Li Shibai as a scapegoat, but also taking the other party's life with his own hands, adding credibility to the lie with blood.
What is sad is that in the next 18 years, Liu Xuebao not only immersed himself in the enjoyment of the halo of a false hero, but also secretly continued to convey intelligence and steal military secrets for the Kuomintang reactionaries, directly endangering the security of New China.
In this way, a despicable little person actually colluded with hostile forces to give birth to such a horrific conspiracy. And the unjust death of the innocent Li Shibai has become the fatal trigger of the entire conspiracy, which makes people feel extremely sad and indignant.

That year, a veteran soldier of the former Lanzhou Military Region accidentally saw a report about Liu Xuebao in the magazine "People's Army". The interrogation that followed was extremely difficult and tortuous. At first, Liu Xuebao refused to admit his guilt and quibbled and prevaricated the accusations. Under layers of interrogation, Liu Xuebao finally confessed all the crimes in June 1986 and personally explained the cause and process of the entire scam. Liu Xuebao was subsequently severely punished by the law, but this was far from enough to compensate for the serious harm he caused.
