At that time, the radio stations of the regiments assigned by the troops going abroad were 15-watt short-wave radio stations of the "August 1" type. Under normal circumstances, the higher-level unit of regimental radio liaison is the division headquarters to which it belongs, and the divisional headquarters are collectively referred to as the detachment units when they go abroad. Since the 58th Regiment was temporarily separated from the 12th Division, a separate regiment went abroad to fight. Therefore, in addition to liaising and reporting to the headquarters of the 5th, 6th, and 1st Detachments that have been assigned to the three changes in accordance with the regulations and receiving orders, the regimental headquarters radio station can also independently open up liaison with the mainland embassy in Vietnam and with the neighboring Kunming Military Region and the Guangzhou Military Region in China, so as to facilitate the special needs of our regiment in foreign affairs and military supplies.
Liu Qingyou's comrade-in-arms, who worked at the regiment headquarters radio station, was a rural soldier who enlisted in Guiyang in early 1968.
