However, such an excellent doctor suffered from stomach cancer that he had dealt with all his life in his later years, and died suddenly in the torment of the disease.

When he was in school, Hua Yiwei made a decision that affected his life - to join the army and become a military doctor.
When the news of his successful enlistment came, Hua Yiwei wrote to his parents excitedly: "My son has become a PLA soldier!" ”
Since then, Hua Yiwei has become a white-clothed soldier in a green military uniform.
The plaque of "Medicine is Benevolence" hanging from his home, the school motto of "Fairness, Fairness and Ability" of Nankai Middle School, and the edification of the story of the communist soldier Bethune, all of these have subtly shaped Hua Yiwei's life value orientation.

In 1993, an oil worker named Liu Shuhe was diagnosed with stomach cancer.

At that moment, Hua Yiwei knelt down in front of his mother fiercely, and cried bitterly on the ground.
In the years that followed, Hua Yiwei dedicated all his passion and strength to the medical cause.
However, such a "Hua Tuo in the world", who always puts patients first, did not expect to be approached by cancer one day, and it is the stomach cancer he is most familiar with.

In 1988, Hua Yiwei reached the age of retirement, but considering Hua Lao's medical skills and energy, the hospital hired him back to the hospital expert group, and Hua Lao still has more than 100 surgeries to do every year.
However, since May 2005, Hua Lao's body has deteriorated day by day, and his physique has become thinner and thinner.
Hua Lao, who has been dealing with cancer for most of his life, naturally sensed the danger signal, but at that time, the surgeries were one after another, and it took him two months before he had time for an examination.
On the morning of July 25, Hua Lao came to the office on time as usual.
While preparing for the patient's operation, Hua Lao quietly told the head nurse beside him: "I had a gastrogram yesterday, and the peristalsis of the stomach is very slow, and the condition is not good. ”
"It can't be a leather stomach, right?" The head nurse asked with a concerned look on his face, the leather stomach is a very malignant cancer.
Hua Lao did not refute, and still replied calmly: "I am also worried that this is the case. ”
When the head nurse heard this, she suddenly felt half of her heart cold, she knew best that Hua Lao's level, if Hua Lao also guessed like this, it meant that his body had reached a very serious point.
The head nurse suggested on the spot that Hua Lao should go back to rest and ask other doctors to perform the operation on his behalf, but Hua Lao still insisted on doing the surgery himself and completed the operation with a consistently high standard before going home to rest.
What everyone didn't expect was that this was the last operation for Hua Lao in decades.
The next day, Hua Lao felt that his body was almost at the limit, so he could only be admitted to the hospital.
A few days later, Hua Lao had another examination and was diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer.
I didn't expect that the person who was the best at treating stomach cancer would eventually be haunted by it, but unfortunately, even if Hua Lao's skills are high, he can't treat them for himself.
Soon after, Hua Lao underwent a total gastric resection, which temporarily suppressed the condition.
On January 6, 2006, the disease struck again, and Hua Lao had to undergo a second operation because of incomplete intestinal infarction, and his trachea was incised.
The cancer was temporarily suppressed, but related complications came to the door one after another, and Hua Lao still struggled to survive the ravages of the disease every day.
Later, the hospital performed a third operation for him, but the situation was still not objective.
When the news of Hua Lao's critical illness came out, groups of patients who had been treated by Hua Lao rushed to Beijing from Tiannan and Haibei to visit Hua Lao.
Outside his ward, there are many people wandering back and forth with tears in their eyes every day, silently paying attention to Hua Lao's situation.
In the hallway, bouquets of flowers fill the aisles.
After Hua Lao learned all this, he shed tears of emotion and happiness.
Hua Lao once said: "As a doctor, it is the greatest happiness to be recognized by patients." ”
After more than 50 years of medical practice, Hua Lao has always been surrounded by happiness.
And it is at such a life-and-death juncture, when the illness is tormenting Hua Lao all the time, he is still always concerned about the medical career of the motherland.
Hua Lao repeatedly told the other director of the department: "Take my own personal experience, try not to perform a total gastric resection on cancer patients in the future, it is too uncomfortable, the quality of life is very poor, you can leave a little bit." Hua Lao's four wills
Hua Lao's first entrustment is about a story about a red envelope.
Nine years ago, an old man named Zhang Qiuhai approached Hua Lao and asked him to have surgery for his wife's small bowel cancer.
Hua Lao performed three surgeries on the patient before and after, and successfully cured Zhang Qiuhai's wife.
In order to thank Hua Lao for his wonderful hand, Zhang Qiuhai stuffed a tie box to Hua Lao, saying that it was a small souvenir.
Before Hua Lao could react, Zhang Qiuhai turned around and went out.
Hua Lao opened it and found that there was 1,000 yuan in it, and he wanted to chase it out and return it to others, but he was busy with work in those days and had no free time.
During the vacation period, Hua Lao found Zhang Qiuhai's home address from the department and prepared to send the money back in person.
But unfortunately, Zhang Qiuhai's family moved after being discharged from the hospital, and the neighbors did not know where they had moved.
Hua Lao had no choice but to deposit the 1,000 yuan in the bank in the name of Zhang Qiuhai.
Nine years have passed, and Hua Lao has never forgotten this incident.
When he was dying, Hua Lao solemnly told his family that he must find Zhang Qiuhai and send the money back.
Fortunately, Hua Lao's family really found the person concerned after several twists and turns, and Zhang Qiuhai cried bitterly when he heard that Hua Lao died of illness.
However, Zhang Shuhai said that he was unwilling to take back the passbook with 1,000 yuan, but donated it to the organization, so this passbook is still kept in the General Hospital of the Military Region.
Hua Lao's second request was to apologize to the two patients.
Before being diagnosed with stomach cancer, Hua Lao made an agreement with these two patients that he would operate on them personally, but unfortunately because of his condition, the operation was delayed again and again.
Hua Lao told his son: "You say sorry to them for me." ”
In addition, Hua Lao also recommended another chief physician of the hospital to explain the patient's condition and precautions for surgery clearly, so that he could feel at ease.
Hua Lao's third will concerns the disposal of his remains.
He told the pathology doctor early on:
"My condition was not diagnosed in the previous examinations, and all the complications after the stomach removal came to the door, which is something I have never seen before, so please do an autopsy on me to see if we can find the cause."
So on his deathbed, he told his son: The way to dispose of the body is to follow that of my parents and father-in-law.

At 6:36 p.m. that day, in a solemn and silent silence, Hua Lao passed away quietly, completing his glorious life.
On the afternoon of August 13, it was drizzling.
Although Hua Lao had already told him not to hold a memorial service and farewell ceremony before his death, thousands of people still braved the rain to come outside the auditorium of the General Hospital of the Beijing Military Region to bid farewell to the living Hua Tuo in the rain.
A condolence hall was set up in the auditorium, but there was no mourning bed or body in it, only a portrait of Hua Lao in military costume, which hung high in the middle of the auditorium, and was full of flowers and black yarn below......
"Medicine is benevolence, and there is no virtue."
This sentence engraved in Hua Yiwei's mind since he was a child has always spurred and inspired him, so that he always keeps his mission in mind and does not forget his original intention.
