On 10 May, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution affirming that Palestine should become a member of the UN. The vote was largely one-sided, with 143 countries voting in favor and only a handful of countries, including the United States, opposing. According to the UN Charter, it needs to be recommended by the permanent members of the Security Council, and none of the five permanent members can oppose it before this country can become a full member of the United Nations.
However, such a non-mandatory resolution was met with fierce opposition from Israel. Israel's representative to the United Nations, Erdan, went so far as to shred the cover of the UN Charter on the spot with a small Chinese-made paper shredder from the UN General Assembly's speech forum. What he wanted to convey was that the General Assembly resolution was contrary to the Charter, and that such a United Nations would not need to exist. Such arrogance was naturally strongly condemned by the majority of UN members, and the UN Deputy Secretary-General later took out a new UN Charter and said that no matter what Israel's attitude was, the United Nations would still be the United Nations. Why is there such a strong resentment in Israel to the General Assembly resolution? The United Nations was established after the Second World War, when people recognized the enormous damage caused by war to humanity and the enormous destructive power of nuclear weapons. Therefore, at the initiative of China, the United States, Britain, France, and the Soviet Union, and with the unanimous consent of all countries in the world, the United Nations was established to establish a platform for the peaceful settlement of international disputes.
In accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, the borders of existing countries are respected, and any use of force to alter borders and violate sovereignty is opposed. In fact, after the establishment of the United Nations, there are still some sovereign countries that have been violated or even annexed, and they have not been redressed. Sikkim, a small country on the border with India, is one example. In any case, however, if a country is able to join the United Nations, it is recognized by the international community and enjoys considerable legal protection. Especially for a small and weak nation like Palestine, whether or not it has a talisman as a member of the United Nations and whether it is recognized as a full-fledged state determines whether the international community has a legal basis to stand up and protect it when it is violated.
In addition, once Palestine joins the United Nations, it can take a rotating position as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, or even a rotating presidency. After obtaining the rotating status, even a weak and small country can raise a loud voice in international affairs, which is difficult for Israel to accept. Can this resolution of the UN General Assembly be adopted by the Security Council? There is little hope. Only nine countries voted against the General Assembly resolution, including the United States. On 18 April, the United States vetoed Palestine's application for membership in the UN Security Council. When this resolution is submitted to the Security Council for a vote, the United States will certainly continue to vote against it. Even if Britain, France, China and Russia are not opposed, it will not help.
Therefore, the resolution passed this time can only serve as a demonstration to the United States, so that the United States can see how lonely it is and how many people betray their relatives. Although the United States is the world's largest hegemonic country and the only superpower, and has the strongest scientific, technological, economic, and military strength, I am afraid that we cannot ignore the common will of the international community. On the Palestinian issue, the United States' stubborn support for Israel has already cost it a great political price. For example, the establishment of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, which has been repeatedly advocated and promoted by the United States, has been suspended. In the face of Iranian-backed armed struggle against the United States, few countries have really stepped up to help the United States. Even the old European allies have only made a formal sense of the "Prosperity Guardian" escort operation launched by the United States and the action to protect Israel. The hard, dirty, and tiring work that rushed to the front line still had to be done by the Americans themselves.
The reason why a UN General Assembly resolution has laid so clearly the isolated status of the United States is that the United States is destroying and undermining the existing international order. The United States is the country that has benefited the most from the current international order, and yet the United States itself is frantically destroying this order. The WTO negotiations have been stalled for five years, and many questions cannot be resolved. The IMF is in a crisis of identity, and it is not even clear about its priorities. The ICC has lost its authority, and the Republican leader of the US House of Representatives, Mike Connell, has even threatened to sanction the ICC if it dares to issue arrest warrants for Israeli leaders. The UN Security Council has also been mired in a long wrangling.
When the United States participated in the establishment of these mechanisms in the early years, its national strength was strong and the institutional arrangements were favorable to the United States. However, as the Jewish financial group gradually manipulated the lifeline of the economic development of the United States, undermined the normal economic order, and led to the continuous decline of the comprehensive national strength of the United States itself. The system that once favored the United States is now becoming more and more unfavorable. The allies who once bowed down to each other are now becoming more and more disobedient. That is why there is a strange phenomenon of the United Nations opposing the United States and the United States opposing the United Nations. As time goes on, we believe that there will be more and more similar cases, and the world will make the United States more and more uncomfortable.
