Liang Zhanyan, born in 1956 in Wuqiang, Hebei Province, studied under Zhou Sicong and Mr. Lu Shen in 1979, and is currently the executive vice president of the Chinese Painting Academy of the China National Academy of Painting. His works have participated in the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th National Art Exhibitions, the 1st and 2nd Shenzhen International Ink Painting Invitational Exhibitions, and have held exhibitions and academic exchanges in the United States, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and other places, and held a personal exhibition in Beijing in 94.
Liang Zhanyan's Chinese painting creation is based on the excavation of local themes, integrates the artistic concepts of the East and the West, adds personal understanding of life, jumps out of the narrow artistic conception of traditional figure painting, and uses traditional brush and ink programs to show the unique spiritual connotation of modern people, so that our realistic noisy life has a moment of calm and freedom and detachment. In Liang Zhanyan's works, the brushwork and modeling, breath and artistic conception are all ancient and reckless, filled with a simple cultural charm. However, it is quaint, not stale, but a transcendent sense of modernity for others, and it is another kind of openness to reality.
Liang Zhanyan's characters come from life and his experience of life. But it is not a copy of life, his creation makes us feel that there is a kind of vitality in his heart, and this vigorous vitality spreads the fragrance of life to the surrounding air through ink. Liang Zhanyan's paintings give people not only an aesthetic and a pleasure, but also a kind of shaking and a joy of sharing and creating.
Liang Zhanyan's works showing the peasants in the north are particularly thick and have the smell of earth, and those characters seem to have grown into his bones. He also has some works that depict rural themes, such as "Phantom Road", a work with his childhood memories, which reproduces the scenes engraved in the deepest part of the artist's memory, the back of a farmer holding an ox in the dark night, the back of a farmer with a plough on his back, the one eye of an ox, the white dirt road and darkened footprints in the dim moonlight, and the phantom of a fox imagined in the middle of the darkness. The mysterious, illusory experience of the rural scene at night comes to life.
We are deeply impressed by the abstraction and generalization ability of the brush and ink language in Mr. Liang Zhanyan's paintings, and the backbone of his brush and ink lines has gone beyond the shallow needs of the realistic modeling of the characters in the paintings. The changes in the ink line make the painter's subjective consciousness stronger, especially to present the needs of his conception and artistic conception, rich in the expression of the internal rhythm of the brush and ink, and increase the overall spiritual connotation of his character building. The brushwork language in the picture has moved from the logic required by the character modeling to the artistry of emotional rhythm, presenting the style of "melancholy narration" and "deep chanting", and then the expression is expressive and moving.
