The 34th Energy Conservation Awareness Week: Green Transformation and Energy Conservation

author:Palm Qujing

Background of the Awareness Week

In 1990, the sixth energy-saving office meeting of the State Council decided to carry out the national energy-saving publicity week. Since 1991, the National Energy Conservation Publicity Week has been held every year. Since 2004, the National Energy Conservation Publicity Week has been changed from the original November to the second week of June, with the aim of forming a strong publicity momentum and arousing people's awareness of energy conservation before the arrival of the peak of summer electricity consumption.

May 13-16, 2024 is the 34th Energy Conservation Awareness Week, and this year's theme is "Green Transformation, Energy Conservation".

The report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that the construction of ecological civilization is a millennium plan for the sustainable development of the Chinese nation. We must establish and practice the concept that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, and adhere to the basic national policy of conserving resources and protecting the environment.

Xi Jinping pointed out at the 29th collective study of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee that it is necessary to enhance the awareness of conservation, environmental protection and ecology among the whole people, advocate a simple, moderate, green and low-carbon lifestyle, and transform the construction of a beautiful China into the conscious action of all people.

The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China put forward that we must firmly establish and practice the concept that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, and plan for development from the perspective of harmonious coexistence between man and nature. It is necessary to accelerate the green transformation of the development mode, further promote the prevention and control of environmental pollution, improve the diversity, stability and sustainability of the ecosystem, and actively and steadily promote carbon peak and carbon neutrality. The "Yunnan Provincial Ecological Civilization Construction Vanguard Plan (2021-2025)" proposes that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the construction of ecological civilization in mainland China will enter a critical period with carbon reduction as the key strategic direction, promoting the synergy of pollution reduction and carbon reduction, promoting the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, and realizing the improvement of ecological environment quality from quantitative to qualitative change.

The "Guiding Opinions on Striving to Build Yunnan into the Most Beautiful Province in China" points out that the public should be guided to live a green life. Advocate a simple and moderate, green and low-carbon, ecological and environmentally friendly lifestyle, promote green consumption, and oppose extravagance, waste and unreasonable consumption.

Carbon peaking and carbon neutrality tips

At the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, China announced that it would "strive to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060".

Carbon peaking refers to the total carbon dioxide emissions reaching a historical peak at a certain point in time, which is not a specific point in time, but a plateau period, during which the total carbon emissions will still fluctuate, but the overall trend will be flat, and then the total carbon emissions will gradually and steadily decline.

Carbon neutrality refers to the total amount of carbon dioxide emissions directly or indirectly generated by enterprises, groups or individuals within a certain period of time, and offsetting this part of carbon emissions through carbon dioxide removal means, such as afforestation, energy conservation and emission reduction, industrial adjustment, etc., to achieve the purpose of "net zero emissions".

On September 22, 2020, the Chinese government proposed at the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly: "China will increase its nationally determined contributions, adopt more robust policies and measures, strive to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030, and strive to achieve carbon neutrality before 2060."

On April 22, 2021, Xi Jinping stressed at the "Leaders' Climate Summit" that China adheres to the path of ecological, green and low-carbon development, and is formulating an action plan for carbon peaking, carrying out extensive and in-depth carbon peaking actions, and supporting qualified localities, key industries and key enterprises to take the lead in reaching the peak.

On April 30, 2021, Xi Jinping emphasized at the 29th collective study of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the construction of ecological civilization in mainland China has entered a critical period with carbon reduction as the key strategic direction, promoting the synergy of pollution reduction and carbon reduction, promoting the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, and realizing the improvement of ecological environment quality from quantitative to qualitative change.

The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China on October 16, 2022 proposed to actively and steadily promote carbon peak and carbon neutrality, coordinate carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion and growth, improve the regulation and control of total energy consumption and intensity, focus on controlling fossil energy consumption, and gradually shift to the "dual control" system of total carbon emission and intensity. Actively participate in global governance to address climate change.

Tips for saving energy at home

(1) Refrigerator power saving

1. Use a hair dryer to blow the aging and deformed refrigerator seal, so that it is heated and puffed up again, and the refrigerator door is closed tightly, of course, it saves electricity than when the wind is exposed.

2. Consumers should place the refrigerator in a location with low ambient temperature and good ventilation, away from heat sources and avoiding direct sunlight. When placing the refrigerator, there should be appropriate space on the top and left sides and on the back to facilitate heat dissipation.

3. When storing and receiving food, try to minimize the number and time of opening the door. Because the cold air disperses after opening the door once, the compressor has to run for dozens of minutes more to restore the refrigeration temperature.

4. Hot food should be cooled to near room temperature before being put in the refrigerator. Because hot food has a high calorie content, the temperature in the refrigerator will rise rapidly, and it will also increase the frost thickness on the surface of the evaporator, resulting in an increase in compressor operating time and increased power consumption.

5. Fruits, vegetables and other foods with more moisture should be washed and drained, wrapped in plastic bags and put in the refrigerator to avoid water evaporation and thicken the frost layer, shorten the defrosting time, and save electricity.

6. Putting too much or too little things in the refrigerator will increase power consumption, and it is better to put 80%.

7. Refrigerated food should not be too dense, leaving a gap conducive to air-conditioning circulation and saving electricity.

(2) Rice cooker saves electricity

1. If you are a family of three, choosing a 500-watt rice cooker is more time-saving and power-saving than a 700-watt rice cooker.

2. When cooking rice, soak the washed rice for 10 minutes before cooking, which can save electricity.

3. Try to avoid the peak of electricity consumption, because the voltage will generally drop during the peak of electricity consumption, and when the voltage is lower than the rated value of the rice cooker by 10%, the electricity consumption time will be extended.

4. The rice cooker should not be used as an electric kettle, and the power consumption of a pot of boiling water in a rice cooker with the same power is about 4 times that of an electric kettle.

(3) Washing machine power saving

1. The washing machine is more power-saving than the weak washing, soak the dirty clothes for about 20 minutes, and then put them in the washing machine for washing, which can save electricity and wash the clothes more cleanly.

2. Adopt a centralized washing method, that is, a bucket of detergent to wash several batches of clothes continuously, first wash the light color, then wash the dark color, the laundry detergent can be added appropriately, and rinse one by one after all washing.

(4) Electricity saving on televisions

1. Control the brightness, the power consumption of the color TV can be 30 watts to 50 watts when it is the brightest and the darkest.

2. Control the volume, the volume is large, the power consumption is high, and the power consumption should be increased by 3 watts to 4 watts for every 1 watt of audio power added.

3. Add a dust cover to prevent the TV from absorbing dust, and if there is more dust, it may leak electricity and increase power consumption.

4. Unplug the power after turning off the TV.

(5) Air conditioning electricity

1. The purchase of air conditioners should generally choose high energy efficiency, computer control (fresh air volume control, optimal start and stop control, automatic sleep function, etc.), compressor frequency conversion speed regulation, etc.

2. When installing the air conditioner, try to choose a place to avoid the sun, or add a sunshade on the air conditioner to avoid direct sunlight. Generally, air conditioners should be installed in a place without direct sunlight and in a good ventilation position.

3. The shorter the connecting pipe between the indoor and outdoor units of the split air conditioner, the better, in order to reduce power consumption, and the connecting pipe should be well insulated.

4. When using the air conditioner, it is not advisable to adjust the temperature too low, the state recommends that the temperature set in summer is 26~27 degrees Celsius for household air conditioners, and every 1 degree Celsius increase in the air conditioning terminal can reduce the electricity load by 7%~10%.

(6) Computer power saving

1. Now computers have a green power-saving function, and you can set the sleep waiting time (generally set between 15 minutes and 30 minutes). When the computer does not receive the input signal of the keyboard or mouse within the waiting time, it will enter the "sleep" state, and automatically reduce the running speed of the machine (the CPU reduces the frequency of running, the energy consumption is reduced to 30%, and the hard disk is stopped) until it is "woken up" by an external signal.

2. When using the computer for a short time or just listening to music, you can adjust the brightness of the monitor to the lowest or simply turn it off.

3. Turn the printer on again when you are in use, and turn it off in time when you are out of use.

(7) Other electrical appliances are power-saving

1. Electric fan: The power consumption is proportional to the speed of the fan blades, the higher the running speed of the electric fan, the greater the power consumption, so in general, the low-speed operation of the electric fan can not only cool off the heat, but also save electricity, should try to use medium and low grades.

2. Electric oven: Baked food should be done in one go.

3. Electric kettle: The scale on the electric heating pipe in the electric kettle should be removed in time.

4. Microwave oven: When processing food, it is best to add a layer of non-toxic plastic film or cover the food to make the moisture of the processed food not easy to evaporate, and the food tastes good and saves electricity. When using a microwave oven, choose the heat of the microwave oven according to the type and quantity of food to be cooked, and thaw the frozen food before cooking.

5. Energy-saving lamps: LED green light sources are used for home lighting. Under the same brightness, the power saving is 70%-80%; LED green light source has a life of 8-10 times longer than incandescent lamp; There are a variety of light colors to choose from, and it is easy to replace.

Water conservation

1. The water used to wash rice, steamers and noodles is easy to use and economical for washing dishes.

2. Changing the water in the fish tank to water the flowers is a trick, and the fish are divided into treasures for the growth of TV plants.

other

1. Choose public transportation and practice green travel with practical actions.

2. Prohibit the use of non-degradable plastic bags and disposable tableware, and advocate green and low-carbon life.

3. Purchase energy-saving and high-efficiency household appliances and green and low-carbon housing, and actively create a simple, moderate, green and low-carbon lifestyle for the whole society.
