On the evening of May 11, the night before the 2024 Diejiao Dragon Boat Drift Season, jointly organized by the Foshan News Media Center and the Diebei Community and Dienan Community of Guicheng Street, Nanhai District, was opened in the C-shaped waterway of the Tantou competition area.
At 8 o'clock that night, the training began on time, the incandescent lights on the shore swayed to illuminate the river swelling far and near, and with the majestic drumming from far to near, the uniform paddling rhythm became faster and faster, and the slender dragon boats quickly rowed past the onlookers. The reporter saw at the scene that there are large wooden piles at the bend on the side of the bridge on the C-shaped waterway, which greatly increases the difficulty of the dragon boat in and out of the bend and adds more challenges to the competition.
The pre-race night training is one of the highlights of this year's Diejiao Dragon Boat drift season. It is reported that from mid-May, each dragon boat team will carry out night training activities that simulate official competitions on the track at night. This training method greatly stimulates the training enthusiasm of the participating teams, so that the participating teams can better adapt to the competition environment, improve the level of competition, and also provide more viewing opportunities for the public, so that they can feel the charm and passion of the dragon boat competition up close.
The reporter observed at the scene that many citizens gathered on both sides of the river to watch the intense training of the dragon boat team enthusiastically, and had a heated discussion on the performance and achievements of the participating teams, adding more interest to the upcoming dragon boat competition, and injecting new vitality into the inheritance and promotion of this traditional sport. On the night of the first training activity, a total of 17 teams including Dongsheng Juxiantang, Chen Feng and Jiaobian signed up to participate, and they sweated on the track at night, showing their exquisite skills and high morale, which attracted bursts of applause from the audience.
"This year, we have created a centralized training method that has not been seen before, allowing athletes to feel the atmosphere of each competition area in advance, which will help improve the sports atmosphere of the whole community." Yang Huazhen, a member of the Diebei Qingyun Dragon Boat Team, said that through such actual combat simulations, each team can clearly find their own shortcomings and check every detail in detail to ensure that they can play their best in the official competition.
It is reported that the 2024 Diejiao Dragon Boat Drift Season is still divided into four major areas: Sanctuary (L-shaped), Dongsheng (S-type), Tantou (C-type), and Chaji (Straight), including Single Dragon Boat Race, Campus Dragon Boat Race, Dragon Boat Race, Challenge, Consumer Festival, etc. The event will continue to be lively from May to August, with the dragon boat drift as a link to connect a comprehensive feast integrating culture, sports, tourism and commerce.
