May 11 was a day of special celebration for me – I received autographed works from many senior professors at Peking University. They are: 92-year-old poet Mr. Xie Mian, 85-year-old master of contemporary Chinese literary history Mr. Hong Zicheng, 85-year-old master of modern Chinese literature Mr. Qian Liqun, and 78-year-old writer and eldest granddaughter of Mr. Lu Zuofu. The total text of the seven masterpieces is about 2.3 million. These seven works, from the opening chapter of "Lu Zuofu's Anthology" on September 17, 1916, "The Establishment of Provincial Departments of Education", to the publication and distribution of "Poetry as a Dream" edited by Xie Lao's Gao Zu, poet, editor, and Gao Xiuqin, vice president of the Chinese Poetry Research Institute of Peking University, in February 2024, spanning time and space for more than 100 years. I skimmed through the preface, preface, and publication notes, and thought that these seven works could be read as a general history of Chinese culture over the past century.

I don't read much, but I like to buy and collect books, and I always want to make up for the shortcomings of ten years of wasted reading. However, as I sprinted towards the finish of life, I found that I couldn't even use 10 fingers of the rest of my reading time. What a pity!

The people live on food, which is the material needs of people. The people are accompanied by books, which should be the spiritual needs of people. It is true that a nation that has solved the problem of food and clothing can raise its eyebrows and be proud, but if it lacks cultural nourishment and is spiritually barren, the material civilization of this nation will be difficult to last.

In the second half of the year, I have already stocked up on spiritual food. Starting tonight, I will first read Xie Lao's masterpieces. In the autograph given to me in "Poetry as a Dream", Mr. Xie wrote a message exuding poetic charm with his unique style: "When will I dance with you again? I'm here to dare to reply: "I'll see you again after reading the masterpiece!" ”

Once again, I would like to thank Dean Gao Xiuqin for linking me with the masterpieces of several veterans of Peking University.

On May 11, 2024, it will be dissolved in Chengdu
