The Municipal Procuratorate held the city's first public hearing on supporting the prosecution of an ecological damage compensation lawsuit

On May 9, Chen Zhe, deputy procurator general of the Fuzhou Municipal Procuratorate, presided over the city's first public hearing on supporting the prosecution of the ecological damage compensation lawsuit, which was prosecuted by the Fuzhou Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, requiring Zhu Moumou and other four defendants to compensate for ecological and environmental damage of nearly 8 million yuan. Because the case had a great impact and educational significance, the Municipal Procuratorate organized more than 20 comrades responsible for the special work of public hearings at the two levels to participate in on-site observation and discussions.

The main topic of the hearing was whether to support the Fuzhou Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment to sue Zhu Moumou and other four defendants for compensation for ecological damages, and invited environmental protection experts, people's supervisors, and volunteers of the "Benefiting the Public" platform to form a team of hearing officers.

At the hearing, the opinions and suggestions of all parties are to be widely heard through methods such as the procurator undertaking the case introducing the basic facts of the case, the hearing officer asking questions to the procurator undertaking the case, the parties and agents ad litem asking questions, and the people's supervisors expressing oversight opinions. After discussion, deliberation and voting, the hearing officers unanimously agreed that the matters in this hearing were related to the restoration of ecological environmental protection and the construction of ecological civilization in Fuzhou, and agreed that the Fuzhou Municipal Procuratorate would support the prosecution of the case and support all the litigation claims put forward by the Fuzhou Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment.

The procurators who participated in the observation and exchange said that the hearing activities were procedurally standardized, had a sufficient legal basis for supporting prosecution, and had a good role in demonstrating and leading, and exchanged and shared experiences in carrying out hearing work.

At the meeting, the Municipal Procuratorate also reported on the progress of the hearing work stage from January to March 2024, and gave key reminders on standardizing the hearing activities. In the next step, the Municipal Procuratorate will dig deep into typical cases of procuratorial hearings, give full play to the positive incentive and demonstration and leading role of hearings, realize "hearing all the evidence that should be heard", continuously improve the ability to resolve social contradictions and disputes, and transform public hearings into an effective way to handle each case with high quality and efficiency.
