BYD, which once openly shouted "volume technology" to the market, has made "fierce materials" again.

On May 10, BYD's e-platform 3.0 Evo was officially unveiled. The platform integrates a number of BYD's "black technologies", among which the most interesting is that the platform integrates a motor with a speed of 23,000rpm. This speed level exceeds the maximum speed of Tesla and Huawei's mass-produced motors, ranking first in the world.

In addition, BYD also launched its 200,000-yuan Hiace 07 EV model to the market on the same day, making it the first model equipped with the e-platform 3.0 Evo. And this model is also seen by the market as a competitor to Tesla's Model Y model.

In the eyes of the market, BYD's product cycle this year is obviously stronger, and its continuous high R&D investment is also in the current stage.

"Faster motors are on the way"

It is understood that the new e-platform 3.0 Evo released by BYD this time integrates five latest technology clusters, including BYD's CTB vehicle safety architecture, 12-in-1 intelligent electric drive, intelligent wide-range high-efficiency heat pump, global intelligent fast charging and intelligent motion control, to fully demonstrate the latest intelligent technology.

BYD suddenly made a big move!

Among them, the 12-in-1 intelligent electric drive technology integrates a 23,000rpm motor, a high-efficiency reducer, a silicon carbide electronic control, a vehicle controller (VCU), a battery manager (BMC), a DC converter (DC-DC), an on-board charger (OBC), a power distribution module (PDU), an intelligent boost module, an intelligent lift module, an intelligent self-heating module, and an energy management intelligent control system.

BYD suddenly made a big move!

BYD revealed at the press conference that the motor integrated by the platform has also become the world's highest-speed motor mass-produced. At present, the maximum speed of Tesla's mass-produced motor is 21,000rpm, and Huawei's electric drive system DriveONE, which has been installed on the Zhijie S7, can reach a maximum speed of 22,000rpm. BYD's mass-produced motor also set a new speed record.

"We also have faster motors, which are already on the way." Lian Yubo, president of BYD Engineering Research Institute, revealed at the meeting. It is understood that with a speed of 23,000 rpm, the top speed of BYD vehicles has also increased from about 180km/h to 225km/h.

At this press conference, BYD also released the first model equipped with the e-platform 3.0 Evo - Hiace 07EV. The model was previously unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show alongside the Seal 06DM-i and OCEAN-M models, which are also part of the Ocean series.

It is worth noting that the model is positioned as a mid-size SUV, and the official guide price announced this time is between 189,800 yuan and 239,800 yuan. In the eyes of the industry, this model fills the gap of BYD's marine series SUV models in this price range, and forms a direct competition with Model Y, one of Tesla's best-selling models.

R&D investment is expected to reach 50 billion ~ 60 billion yuan

BYD's launch of the all-new e-platform 3.0 EVO and its launch on its mass-produced models is also seen as the new energy vehicle company's continuous high R&D investment has gradually entered the realization stage.

Since 2021, BYD's R&D intensity has continued to increase. In 2021, R&D investment was 10.6 billion yuan, an increase of 28%; in 2022, it will be 20.2 billion yuan, an increase of 91%; In 2023, it will be 39.9 billion yuan, an increase of 98%, surpassing Tesla's 28.4 billion yuan for the first time in history, and R&D investment will increase by nearly 300% in just three years.

In the first quarter of 2024, BYD's R&D investment will be about 10.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 70%, which is not only a record high, but also higher than Tesla's R&D expenses of 1.15 billion US dollars (equivalent to 8.2 billion yuan) in the same period.

Some institutions predict that BYD's annual R&D investment this year is expected to reach 50 billion ~ 60 billion yuan, close to Toyota's R&D investment in 2023.

In addition to the e-platform 3.0 Evo, BYD has also successively launched a number of core technologies, including blade battery, DM-i super hybrid, CTB battery-body integration, and "Yunlin" technology and Yi Sifang technology platform, which was first built on the Yangwang brand.

Product cycles tend to be stronger

In fact, since the beginning of this year, BYD's product cycle has tended to be significantly stronger.

Since the beginning of the year, the Qin PLUS, Han, Tang, and Song Pro of the BYD Dynasty series, as well as the Seagull, Dolphin, Seal DM-i, Destroyer 05, Frigate 07 and other Glory Edition models of the BYD Dynasty series have been launched.

At that time, BYD's main focus was that electricity was lower than oil, and the price reduction ranged from 10,000 ~ 50,000 yuan, which set off a round of new energy vehicle price war. Subsequently, the A0-level Yuan UP was officially launched, which further lowered the price threshold.

After the launch of this series of products, BYD's average monthly sales in March and April exceeded 300,000 units, reversing the decline in February in one fell swoop. In the first four months of this year, BYD's cumulative sales have reached 936,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 23.6%.

In addition to the Hiace 07 EV on the market this time, the Seal 06DM-i, which is also a marine series, is expected to have a price range of 120,000~150,000 yuan, and will be launched in the second quarter of this year; The price range of the OCEAN-M model is also expected to be between 150,000 ~ 200,000 yuan, and it will be launched in the third quarter of this year.

In the view of the institution, with the above-mentioned models on the market one after another, BYD's market share of 200,000 yuan level models may be further consolidated.

It is worth noting that at the end of April, the seven departments jointly issued the "Implementation Rules for Automobile Trade-in Subsidy", which provides a subsidy of up to 10,000 yuan for individual consumers who scrap fuel passenger cars with emission standards of China III and below and new energy passenger vehicles registered before April 30, 2018, and purchase new passenger cars that meet the energy-saving requirements.

Many car companies have taken advantage of the May Day holiday to follow up the policy and launch replacement discounts for related models. Among them, BYD launched a replacement policy on May 5, launching a replacement subsidy of up to 10,000 yuan for marine net models, which can also be superimposed with a national trade-in subsidy of 10,000 yuan.

The Passenger Association expects that with the implementation of the trade-in policy, the introduction and follow-up of corresponding policies and measures in various places, and the phased cooling of the "price war" of new products in the auto market, the consumption enthusiasm of the market wait-and-see group will be stimulated, which will be conducive to the gradual strengthening of the auto market in the next few months.
