It was found that as many as 36 million Thais encountered online scams in 2023, and as many as half or 18.37 million of this number were successfully scammed, with the Generation Y group (generally referring to those born in the 1980s and 1990s) being the group with the largest number of victims and the most serious losses. The most scammed types of scams are online shopping and investing, followed by fake recruitment, job search, online tasks, etc.

In addition, the loss caused by deception through online channels in 2023 is estimated to be about 49.845 billion baht, with an average of 2,660.94 baht per person. In addition, victims will also be affected by other aspects, including relationships with those around them, 61.3% of them have mental health problems after being deceived, and 43.9% of them feel afraid of their lives after being deceived; 22.6% felt hopeless and unable to move on with their lives; 13.5% need to seek help from a psychologist or psychiatrist.
