In the past few days, groups of yellow-breasted buntings, a national first-class protected animal, have appeared in the wild in Guxian Village, Songshan Street, Xiapu County, with an astonishing number of more than 200. It is reported that this is the largest number of yellow-breasted bunting clusters found in Fujian Province this season.
At the scene, some of the yellow-breasted buntings forage in the grass, some fly freely, and some perch on the top of the grass, presenting a different scenery of birds living in harmony with nature.
It is understood that since the discovery of yellow-breasted buntings in Xiapu County in 2020, the number of yellow-breasted buntings crossing the border has been rising every year, demonstrating that the local ecological environment is getting better and better.
Yellow-breasted bunting, also known as grass finch, is a small songbird, likes to eat plant seeds, body length of 14~15 cm, its most iconic feature is the chest with bright yellow feathers, very conspicuous. In 2017, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) upgraded the yellow-breasted bunting from "endangered" to "critically endangered". In 2021, the mainland upgraded the yellow-breasted bunting to a national first-class protected animal.
