Although the green goat in Shanxian County is small and has a slow growth rate, it has achieved the unique charm of "China's first soup" with its excellent meat characteristics, and the protection and improvement of its germplasm resources are becoming more and more urgent. In 2019, the Shanxian County People's Government and the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences jointly established the Shanxian Green Goat Research Institute, with the help of the provincial, municipal and county associations for science and technology, relying on the professional resources of China Agricultural University and other universities, the Shanxian Sheep Industry Science and Technology Institute was established to carry out in-depth research on the protection of green goat germplasm resources and the innovation of breeding technology. With a total investment of 120 million yuan, the base covers an area of more than 350 acres, and currently has more than 7,000 stockpiles, which is the largest green goat breeding innovation demonstration base in the country.
Lian Zhengxing, a professor at the College of Animal Science and Technology of China Agricultural University, introduced that the sheep industry "science and technology courtyard" in Huanggang Town, Shanxian County, has jointly built a scientific and technological innovation team integrating production, education and research with China Agricultural University, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other scientific research institutes, established a postdoctoral research station, and jointly built the only national scientific research platform for green goat breeding and breeding. Relying on this platform, graduate training units can send graduate students to the front line of agricultural production for a long time, and on the basis of completing the study of theoretical knowledge, focus on researching and solving practical problems in agricultural and rural production practice, and effectively solve the problem of disconnection between scientific research results and actual production.
Since 2022, the Science and Technology Institute has combined the local forage structure to jointly carry out a double improvement test on the meat quality and growth rate of green goat with China Agricultural University. The average single weight of the second generation of green goats increased by 30%, the growth cycle was shortened by one and a half months, the average breeding cost was reduced from 33.4 yuan per kilogram to 24.5 yuan of the first generation of green goats, and the coverage rate of goat breeds reached 100%. At present, the lambing rate of green goats is stable at 3-4, and the reproductive rate has increased significantly compared with the past, with a growth rate of up to 300%.
Radiate a countryside
In the Science and Technology Academy, a number of professors and graduate students of China Agricultural University give full play to their professional strengths, carry out in-depth research and promotion and application of high-yield breeding technology of green goats, and at the same time cultivate local talents for the breeding base, they also popularize the knowledge of green goat breeding technology and disease prevention to more surrounding farmers, solve the technical problems encountered by farmers in actual production, and provide one-to-one or one-to-many on-site guidance and consulting services.
In the past two years, the Science and Technology Academy has attracted a total of 3 teachers, 1 postdoctoral fellow, 4 graduate students, contacted and served 1 agricultural technology association, with a field experiment demonstration area of 10 acres, 12 online and offline training meetings, and nearly 5,000 farmers trained. Through scientific and technological experts and scientific researchers to serve farmers and the agricultural industry in the way of "zero distance, zero time difference, and zero threshold", the Science and Technology Academy has successfully solved the "last mile" problem and created a replicable demonstration model of rural revitalization of "strong agriculture, beautiful countryside, and rich farmers".
Under the empowerment of science and technology, Shanxian Sheep Industry Science and Technology Institute has also developed a "company + farmer sheep farm digital management platform", which has realized the refined and intelligent management of sheep breeding, and improved the breeding level in an all-round way from sheep information entry, growth and development assessment to disease prevention and control, feed formula formulation and other dimensions.
Drive an industry
In recent years, the Shanxian County Party Committee and the county government have attached great importance to the development of the sheep industry, regarded it as a key engine for rural revitalization, and included it in the "County Magistrate Project". In 2021, Shandong Shanyang Qianqiu Restaurant Chain Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the state-owned assets platform of Shanxian County People's Government, was established to help promote the industrialization, standardization and brand development of Shanxian mutton soup, and strive to build a "six-in-one" Shanxian mutton soup industry chain of seed preservation and breeding, intelligent breeding, production and processing, cold chain logistics, catering chain and cultural tourism.
Nowadays, the results of the science and technology institute have initially appeared, Shanxian green goat industry research institute Co., Ltd. of modern sheep house as many as 480, high-quality green goat annual slaughter volume of 5,000, annual output value of up to 200 million yuan, driving slaughtering, processing, refrigeration, transportation, feed and other industrial chain output value jumped to 2 billion yuan, green goat industry driven by scientific and technological power to rejuvenate.
