NBA Celebrity: James is not involved in the Lakers coach selection and is sensitive to this and does not want to be called a coach killer

NBA Hall of Famer Brian Windhorst spoke succinctly about LeBron James' role in the Lakers' coach search.

It's no secret that the Lakers are looking for a new coach.

Recently, the Los Angeles Lakers made a big decision to fire not only head coach Darvin Ham, but their entire coaching staff, including Phil Handy, who was hailed as the favorite coach by fans and players during their Los Angeles tenure.

It's a bit of a surprise to fire the entire coaching staff, who doesn't like all the Lakers' coaches so much?

Ham once again struggled to call a timeout and assemble a reasonable lineup in the Lakers' second consecutive playoff loss to the Denver Nuggets, although that didn't stop some from labeling LeBron James a "coach killer" again after the news was announced.

The Lakers are now struggling to find their next head coach to lead their team, with some of the names being mentioned include former Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer, Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue, and podcast host JJ Redick.

Of course, there are also many fans who expect Rondo to be the Lakers coach.

Needless to say, the kid from Akron plays a pretty big role in basically every organizing decision when LeBron James is on your team, but ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst disputed that view during his recent appearance on The Dan Patrick Show.

"LeBron James won't be involved in coaching, and for years, he's always kept his distance," Windhorst told The Dan Patrick Show on YouTube.

"Actually, I can't say that's true for every candidate, but he usually has a rule that he doesn't come into contact with candidates. He certainly talks to the coach after he's hired, but he usually wants to stay away from it, he doesn't want to get involved.

I know there are people who think that LeBron hired and fired all these coaches, and maybe he really hurt the coaches because he weakened them like a thousand paper knives. But LeBron James is very sensitive to this, he doesn't want to be involved, he doesn't want to be called a coach killer.

So he's not going to go to Rob Pelinka and say 'Hey, I'm having a great time with JJ, you should hire him', it's unrealistic. ”

It's not okay to have no head coach, the Lakers must have a head coach in the new season, where should the Lakers go next?

Two things can be true at the same time: Darvin Ham didn't make the most of the Lakers' locker room during his tenure in Los Angeles, and the Lakers may not have enough to compete for an NBA championship.

To be truly competitive and earn LeBron James his fifth NBA championship, the Lakers need to bring in more size and outside scoring, both of which were thoroughly exposed in the loss to the Nuggets (currently being thoroughly crushed by the Minnesota Timberwolves, which lets Lakers fans know that there's more room for improvement than Denver).

Perhaps more worrying than anything else, the Lakers have been very fortunate to stay healthy throughout the 2023-24 season, which has led some to believe that their current roster can actually only go downhill.

Regardless, Los Angeles could be in for a major change.

However, it is a pity that now that the NBA has released news that James is not involved in the Lakers coach selection, then it is likely that James will really choose to keep his distance, so that the quality of the Lakers coach selection will be discounted, after all, without James' check, it will inevitably be inappropriate in the future.
