On May 2nd, BMW Motorrad unveiled their new ASA (Automated Shift Assistant) system.

According to the information released by the manufacturer, the main features of the ASA system are as follows:

1. BMW Motorcycle's "Simplify your ride" is the basic slogan of this ASA system. The pursuit of making driving simpler and more comfortable, providing automatic options for the operation of clutch and gear shifting, enhancing the driving experience without sacrificing the pursuit of driving pleasure;

2. The new ASA system is based on the control logic and technology of BMW Motorcycle's original quick-shift system SA Pro (Shift Assistant Pro). Structurally, the ASA uses two micro-motor-driven subsystems to control the shift of the six-speed transmission system and the opening and closing of the clutch respectively, and there are two main function options: D and M, where D belongs to automatic transmission and M belongs to manual transmission. The system is the result of the combination of clutch action execution, gear shift action execution, and complex electronic induction and control system;

3. In terms of operation, the ASA system removes the clutch lever of the left hand, and controls the operation in different functional states through the button of the left hand and the shift lever of the left foot;

4. In D-gear mode, the ASA system plays its true role. During the riding process with D gear selected, the gear shift point is automatically selected by the engine control unit, and the rider does not need additional hands and feet to control the action, and the system can automatically select the appropriate gear according to the rider's personal riding needs, this D mode can bring a smooth and smooth riding experience to the rider;

5. In the mode of M gear, the rider's left hand also does not need to control the action, just like using the quick shift system, you can use the left foot to operate the gear lever to achieve upshift or downshift;

6. BMW Motorcycles said that the new ASA system has a series of advantages, such as eliminating the need to operate the clutch with the left hand, making riding easier and more enjoyable, and eliminating the possibility of engine stalling due to poor gear shifting.

At this time, the manufacturer has not announced which model the new ASA system will be applied to first. More information is not expected until later this year.
