Since townhouses first appeared in the late 18th century, this building type has gradually become mainstream, fitting perfectly with the irregular and vibrant road networks of Vietnam's major cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as the entry point for the project due to the uneven urban sprawl of the downtown neighborhoods.

The project is conceived as a beautiful mixed-use building with irregular hexagonal shapes on the corner of a busy alley in Ho Chi Minh City. The brief required the designers to create flexible retail and parking areas on the ground floor and maximize the use of space on the upper two floors. In addition to this, the project also has high requirements for privacy and noise isolation. The designers achieved this by combining two design approaches: one that is responsive to the site and has a positive impact on the streetscape, and the other that optimizes the layout of the space to create a flexible and efficient interior.

First of all, the building was built strictly according to the irregular geometry of the site, the façade was painted with grease and rough gray paint, and square windows and doors were randomly placed on three facades. Recessed balconies with diagonal balustrades overlooking the corners of the alley were also created on the façade, which also served as an effective design ending to enhance privacy and sound insulation, while also receiving south-facing light and natural ventilation. The owners have also planted vibrant greenery on these triangular stepped balconies, adding vibrancy to the interior spaces and street side.

Inside, three successive staircases are neatly arranged at the rear, connecting the three floors to the roof terrace. Bathrooms, toilets and storage rooms are arranged at the bottom of the staircase. In addition, the designers have optimized the design of the main functional spaces, with a photography studio on the second floor and a beautiful office space on the top floor. The jagged stairwell is transformed into a 1-metre-wide and 10-metre-high void space, which is bathed in natural light thanks to a UV-resistant skylight at the top.

Finally, the interior was built with simpler materials, including polished concrete floors, exposed concrete ceilings, and walls that combine glass and paint. The flexibility of the available interior spaces and the unconventional architectural forms combine to form this wonderful building, which stands like the cornerstone of a street corner.
