Kingdom of Fiji (1871-1874)

The Kingdom of Fiji (Fiji, also known as Viti) was a constitutional monarchy in the Fiji Islands from 1871 to 1874, with Seru Eppenisa Sakobo as king. The Kingdom of Fiji was the first country to unite the Fiji Islands, and its territory encompassed modern Fiji except for Rotuma.

The Colony of Fiji was a colony of the British Empire in the South Pacific that existed from 1874 to 1970. The capital was originally based in Levuka and moved to Suva in 1877.

Dominion of Fiji (1970-1987)

Dominion of Fiji refers to Fiji from 1970 to 1987. During this period, Fiji was a Dominion within the Commonwealth of Nations, and Queen Elizabeth II was also the Queen of Fiji, acting as the head of state of Fiji and exercising power on her behalf by the Governor-General. The country is the successor to the Fiji colony and was established in October 1970. On 6 October 1987, after two military coups, Fiji abolished the monarchy and changed its name to the Republic of Fiji.

Republic of Fiji (1984-present)

The coat of arms of Fiji is a coat of arms granted by a patent licence issued on 4 July 1908. On the red ground above, a lion holding a cocoa pod is depicted. Below is a St. George's Cross divided into four quadrants, with sugar cane, coconut, dove of peace and banana at the four corners. The shield is topped by a red and white wreath and adorned with a sailing ship. Each side is guarded by a Fijian armed weapon. On the frieze is the national motto "Fear God, glorify the King".
