One of the most respected coaches in professional boxing, Mexican-American coach Robert Garcia is a man of many people, with more than 30 fighters training here at any given time to prepare for the fight.
Last weekend, in Fresno, California, Robert Garcia coached a slew of fighters, including welterweight main event fighter Jose Ramirez, super welterweight junior Virgil Ortiz Jr., and lightweight Oscar Duarte, among others. Although he didn't play, Garcia still traveled from city to city like a warrior, helping his trained fighters win one decisive match after another of his career.
But even with his busy schedule, Garcia is keeping an eye on this weekend's "Sur Alvarez Vs. Jamie Monguia" at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Robert Garcia has a boxing section on YouTube where he regularly shares some of his opinions, and the most recent episode is of course about Sur Alvarez vs. Jamie Monguia.
The 27-year-old is six years younger than Sur Alvarez, who turned professional in 2005 and Jamie Monguia entered the professional boxing ring in 2013. Age doesn't mean everything, but Robert Garcia thinks Sur Alvarez's experience will help him a lot.
"I think in the fight, Jamie Monguia will have the advantage in some rounds, especially in the first half of the fight, which is in line with Jamie Monguia's style of play. However, Saul Alvarez will eventually take charge of the game and salvage the disadvantage. Perhaps, Saul Alvarez will knock out Jamie Monguia before the end of the match. Robert Garcia analyzed.
Garcia also noted that the styles of the two fighters are very well matched. Both fighters have the traditional Mexican style, and both of them can fight hard. This bout is not just about competing for the IBF, WBA, WBO and WBC super middleweight world titles, but about the glory of professional boxing throughout Mexico.
