Recently, Delufa came to Nanjing, Jiangsu Province for the first time and was interviewed by a reporter from Modern Express, sharing his experience in literary creation, translation and promoting cultural exchanges between China and Italy.

Befriend Haizi

"Living in this precious world, the sun is strong and the water waves are gentle. I don't know how many times Delufa has read Haizi's poems, these poems flow quietly through the long river of time, and can always bring new feelings to the reader.

While in Italy, Delufa first read Haizi's poems and felt very powerful. "His poetry is amazing, he's a very great poet. At that time, I made up my mind that I must translate Haizi's poems into Italian, so that more Italians can know about this great Chinese poet. ”

Although he can be considered a "China expert", he admits that the translation work is still challenging. "You yourself are in the room, and you can feel the power of such a great poet. ”

Poets are sensitive, and they are one of the most sensitive and lonely people in society, says Delufa. He often empathizes with poets when translating, feeling their loneliness and pain, their joys and sorrows, which he finds the most challenging. "I've been reading his (Haizi's) poems for four years, and I feel like we're already friends. Delufa said in a previous interview.

A Happy Man (Haizi Poetry Anthology)

IN MARCH 2020, THE ITALIAN VERSION OF UN UOMO FELICE ("A HAPPY MAN") TRANSLATED BY DELUFA WAS OFFICIALLY PUBLISHED IN ITALY, AND THE POETRY COLLECTION INCLUDED 80 POEMS BY HAIZI, WHICH ATTRACTED WIDE ATTENTION IN ITALY UPON PUBLICATION. At that time, it coincided with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy, and the book built a bridge across languages to promote the exchange of poetry and culture between China and Italy.

In March this year, Delufa finally came to Haizi's former residence - Chawan Village, Gaohe Town, Huaining County, Anhui Province. He visited the Haizi Memorial Hall, met Haizi's family, lived in the Haizi Library, and saw the collection of Haizi's poems he translated four years ago on the bookshelf of the library.

Delufa has already begun work on Haizi's next collection, which will be published later this year by his own publishing house, Delufa.

It is "natural fate" with China

Since childhood, Delufa has wanted to come to China. After graduating from university, he came to Beijing Language and Culture University to continue his studies and learn Chinese. "The first time I set foot on Chinese soil, I had a feeling that I was home, and it was really magical. ”

Delufa seems to have an innate bond with China, and for the next 18 years, he has contributed to the cultural exchange between the two countries.

Delufa in Beijing

After coming to China in 2006, he lived in Delufa for 9 years. From Beijing to Tianjin and then to Hainan, this Italian from the Mediterranean has a "double experience card" from the north and south of China.

"I grew up in the sea and loved the sun, so I moved to Hainan. "For the surfing enthusiast Delufa, Hainan is a place where you can enjoy the waves to the fullest. He not only loves surfing, but also hopes to introduce the sport to more Chinese. In 2011, he founded Chinasurfreport, an online magazine dedicated to promoting surf culture and the sport.

Delufa told reporters that the main purpose of this media is to share his love for the ocean, and at the same time, he also hopes to be able to help Chinese young people a little. "I've been doing it for three years, and after I'm gone, there are other people who continue to do it. There are more and more surfers now, and there are more and more young people, so I'm kind of a pioneer, and we happen to be in the pioneer bookstore. Delufa laughed.

As a former media person, Delufa has always maintained the habit of creating. He wrote the novel "Karma Hostel", which records his life in Hainan with a group of young people who love the sea and surf in the first person. In 2015, after leaving Hainan and returning to Italy, Delufa began to work as a translator in the true sense of the word.

Set up a publishing house to convey the friendship between China and Italy

"I want to spread Chinese culture objectively through my own ability, and I also want to bring Italian culture to China. Delufa was pleased to see that after his translation of Haizi's poems was published in Italy, it didn't take long for him to see a French version in France.

In addition to Haizi and Gu Cheng, Delufa is currently translating the poetry collection "If the Wheat Dies" by the Chinese poet Zhou Yaping, as well as the works of poets such as Xichuan, Luo Yihe, and Liu Xi. "The first is that I want to spread Chinese culture, and the second is to build bridges of friendship. Delufa said.

To this end, in 2023, Delufa will set up the Delufa Publishing House in Italy, aiming to translate and publish poetry collections of outstanding contemporary Chinese poets. "Almost all the [Italian] publishers I've met don't know China, they don't understand Chinese, so I think as a friend of China, it's easier to do it myself. ”

In addition to conveying the friendship between the two countries through literature, Delufa also established the China-Italy Development Association 13 years ago to provide translation services for local Chinese in Italy, and has also cooperated with the Italian Ministry of the Interior and the Immigration Bureau. But he found that literature was more suitable for him, so he is now devoting himself to translation and publishing.

During this trip to Nanjing, Delufa Publishing House and Jiangsu Phoenix Literature and Art Publishing House reached a cooperation intention to launch a mutual translation project between Italian contemporary poetry collection and Chinese contemporary poetry collection.

For young people who want to engage in literary translation or creation, Delufa also gave his own advice: first, respect culture, respect the culture of one's own country and other countries, respect poets, and respect those who are willing to write their lives on paper and give them to readers.

In addition to respecting culture, Delufa also believes that one must love what one does, and if one recognizes it, keep doing it, "persevere, persevere, persevere, and don't give up on your dreams." This is my third piece of advice, and one for myself. ”

After the interview, Delufa stumbled upon the words hanging on the bookshelf above where we were sitting was Haizi's classic poem - "Living in this precious world, the sun is strong, and the water waves are gentle." "It's magical, Haizi knows and supports us. Delufa said.
