A few days ago, China's 40th Antarctic scientific expedition successfully completed the mission, and four members of the Wuhan University scientific expedition team returned to Wuhan in batches. Let's hear what they learned and felt about their trip to Antarctica.
At the China Antarctic Surveying and Mapping Research Center of Wuhan University, the reporter met three of the team members who participated in the Antarctic scientific expedition. In the past few months, they have traveled to the Zhongshan Station, Kunlun Station, Qinling Station and Grove Mountain area in Antarctica to carry out scientific expeditions in glaciology, astronomy, geology, geophysics and other fields.
Geng Tong and Chu Xinde went to Antarctica for the first time, and during the scientific expedition, when they encountered places that could not be reached on foot, they needed to use drones to collect data.
Chu Xinde, from the China Antarctic Surveying and Mapping Center of Wuhan University, said that the task I carried out during this period was the unmanned aerial survey and meteorite distribution aerial survey experimental project. Some tasks inevitably need to take off the gloves to operate, I need to plan some drone routes, and then when I need to click on the screen and need to view the information of this drone, I need to take off the gloves, at that time, I feel that this glove is taken off for about 1 minute, and I feel that this hand has been frozen numb. This is my first time to go to Antarctica, and it is also the first time I have seen penguins, seals, sea ice, glaciers, ice shelves, and drones in Antarctica.
Geng Tong of the China Antarctic Surveying and Mapping Center of Wuhan University said that this time I participated in our Antarctic scientific expedition, advanced more than 1,200 kilometers into the ice sheet, we reached the highest point of Antarctica, and then carried out relevant environmental survey tasks at Zhongshan Station, Taishan Station and Kunlun Station. Antarctica is relatively difficult, and during our trip, we also encountered albino days, and then some ice cracks, including a relatively large hurricane on our return trip. At the same time, I felt very shocked, attracted by the scenery of Antarctica, and also touched by the power of Antarctic nature. Antarctica is a pure land, and I hope it will be pure forever.
In addition to completing the scientific expedition task, the team members also need to participate in the maintenance and construction of the site, and Professor Zhang Baojun, who went to Antarctica for the second time, participated in and witnessed the whole process of the construction of Qinling Station during this trip.
Zhang Baojun of the China Antarctic Surveying and Mapping Center of Wuhan University said that the location of the Qinling station was particularly windy, with a minimum temperature of minus 30 degrees, and experienced many strong winds of more than 12. We worked for a total of 52 days, and our non-professional personnel, mainly the exterior wall panels, put purlins on them, and then tear off the film for them, like when we installed purlins, we had five or six teammates, and then everyone's wrists were swollen. Everyone has their own contributions, and finally Qinling Station was built and opened, and I feel very proud of it.
