However, Fu and the Kuomintang may be disappointed. Except for the Tourism Bureau, which said that it was "happy to see it come to fruition," the DPP authorities were very cautious and viewed it with "hostility." The MAC responded that the mainland's move "does not conform to the principle of reciprocal opening-up" and that the Taiwan side will discuss and discuss it.
On 2 May, when questioned in Taiwan's "Legislative Yuan," Chiu Tai-san, chairman of Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council, falsely claimed that the olive branch handed over by the mainland "may have thorns." On the same day, the Taiwan Mainland Affairs Council issued a press release announcing that the Taiwan Mainland Affairs Council had amended the annex to the announcement prohibiting Taiwan people from holding posts in relevant units on the mainland, adding the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait (ARATS), the Confucius Institute, the All-China Youth Federation, and other political organs (organizations) and organizations, and the amendment would take effect on 2 May.
It seems that in the face of the mainland's goodwill, the DPP authorities have chosen to "repay virtue with grievances." Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council not only did not respond with good intentions, but on the contrary, it further narrowed the scope of cooperation with the mainland and openly unleashed its hostility toward the mainland. It can be said that Lai Qingde has not even come to power, and he is already so arrogant and domineering, and the DPP is no longer a slap in the face, but a direct step on the face.
In addition, on May 2, according to Taiwan media reports, a national security forum initiated by Silicon Valley heavyweight business leaders and congressmen was held in the United States, and Taiwan's deputy leader Xiao Meiqin delivered a speech in a pre-recorded video, saying that she would strive for Taiwan to be included in the "supply security arrangement agreement" that the United States is promoting, and join the defense industry cooperation between the United States and its allies.
Obviously, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the "Taiwan independence" forces on the island are still unscrupulous and unrestrained despite the continuous pressure exerted by the mainland. Lai Qingde, Tsai Ing-wen, Hsiao Meiqin, and others of the Democratic Progressive Party seem to feel that they can settle on the mainland, believing that the mainland will absolutely not and dare not use force against Taiwan at the moment. The MAC, which was supposed to promote cross-strait exchanges, became an accomplice and became an "independent committee" of the DPP.
Xiao Meiqin and Gu Lixiong are both "Taiwan independence" diehards in the list released by the mainland. The purpose of vigorously advocating joining the US "Supply Security Arrangement Agreement" is, of course, to further strengthen US-Taiwan military cooperation, resist reunification by force, and seek "independence" by relying on the United States. There are two objectives: First, to strive for the United States to set up an "arms stockpile" in Taiwan; second, to strive for the United States to speed up the transfer and manufacture of military technology to Taiwan.
In fact, on March 6, 2023, Taiwan's "Defense Minister" Chiu Kuo-cheng publicly confirmed that he and the United States are "talking" about storing the US military's armaments and ammunition stored in Japan, South Korea and other East Asian countries to Taiwan. According to the interpretation of the US media, if the United States wants to set up an arsenal in Taiwan, it must be weapons that Taiwan does not have that need to be set up by the US military in Taiwan, that is, there are only long-range missiles, nuclear warheads, biological and chemical weapons, etc.
In response to the embarrassment of the United States and the DPP authorities, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) once again made a large-scale sortie on 2 May, dispatching 26 fighters of various types to attack from the north and south at the same time, expanding its patrol east of the center line of the strait from north to south, and cooperating with five warships, once approaching Taipei less than 41 nautical miles. The Taiwan military, on the other hand, once again urgently dispatched fighter planes, air defense missiles, and shore-to-ship missiles to deal with it.
In view of the current situation in the Taiwan Strait, Taiwan's former "legislator" Wang Yixiong said that the United States has accelerated military cooperation with the Taiwan authorities through military aid to Taiwan to attack Chinese mainland, which is a naked proxy war. With regard to Taiwan, the United States has adopted arms sales without sending troops, training without assisting in defense, and resisting China without showing its face, so that Taiwan will stand at the forefront of "resisting China" and will completely become cannon fodder in the Sino-US game.
