The national standard for lithium batteries for electric bicycles is about to be introduced

The main causes of e-bike fires include battery overcharge, battery cell failure, battery line short circuit, etc. In addition, old batteries and modified batteries also have great safety risks.

However, over the years, the mainland has lacked mandatory national standards for lithium batteries for electric bicycles, and the quality of lithium batteries is uneven, resulting in frequent safety accidents.

The reporter learned from the Guangdong Electric Vehicle Chamber of Commerce that the mandatory national standard "Safety Technical Specifications for Lithium-ion Batteries for Electric Bicycles" drafted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will be released soon. This standard will fill the gap in the technical basis for the safety and quality supervision of lithium-ion batteries for electric bicycles at the national level. In addition, entrusted by the China Battery Industry Association, the Guangdong Electric Vehicle Chamber of Commerce and the Guangdong Institute of Product Quality Supervision and Inspection recently launched the drafting of the group standard project of "Quality Grading and Evaluation of Lithium-ion Batteries for Electric Bicycles".

According to reports, on the basis of the national standard, the group standard of "Quality Grading Evaluation of Lithium-ion Batteries for Electric Bicycles" will grade and evaluate the quality of lithium-ion batteries for electric bicycles, so that consumers can better identify high-quality products.
