Dengue fever is an acute infectious disease caused by the dengue virus. It is mainly transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito (Aedes flower) mosquito, forming a "sick → Aedes mosquito → others" transmission route.
Symptoms typically include fever, headache, orbital pain, musculoskeletal arthralgia ("three pains"), flushing of the face, neck, and chest ("three reds"), accompanied by loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and rash. Rarely, it can develop severe disease and even be life-threatening.
Dengue epidemic risk areas Reminder: In 2024, the dengue fever epidemic in the Americas will be severe, and the dengue fever epidemic in some countries in Southeast Asia will increase compared with the same period last year. Key risk areas include: the Americas (Brazil, Paraguay, Panama, Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Mexico), Southeast Asian countries (Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia), South Asia (Sri Lanka, Bangladesh), Africa (Mauritius), etc.
Precautionary measures: 1. When traveling to dengue fever endemic areas and playing in the wilderness, wear long-sleeved clothes and trousers, and apply mosquito repellent on exposed skin and clothing. 2. Please close the screen doors and windows indoors, and use mosquito nets and mosquito coils when mosquitoes exist to prevent mosquitoes and eliminate mosquitoes. 3. If people from countries (regions) where dengue fever occurs have symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, rash, and flushing of the face, neck, and chest, they should take the initiative to declare to the customs when entering the country.
Rabies rabies is a zoonotic infectious disease caused by the rabies virus, which is mainly infected by scratching, biting or licking wounds of sick animals, and patients often have clinical symptoms such as mania, hydrophobia, and wind phobia.
The incubation period of human rabies (from exposure to onset) is usually 1-3 months, and some can be as short as about a week, and the case fatality rate of rabies is almost 100%, but after being bitten and scratched by animals, timely and standardized post-exposure treatment can prevent the onset of the disease.
Prevention Recommendations:
▶ If you find small animals such as dogs and cats on the way out, do not tease or provoke them, especially do not provoke the small animals that take care of the cubs or are eating.
▶ Vaccinate your dogs and cats against rabies to prevent disease in animals. Keep your dog on a leash when you go out, and it's best to wear a muzzle to avoid biting others.
▶ If you are accidentally scratched or bitten by a small animal such as a cat or dog, or if the broken skin or mucous membrane is licked by an animal, go to the nearest medical institution or community health service center as soon as possible for wound treatment, vaccination and other post-exposure prophylaxis.
Fever with platelet syndrome
Fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome is an acute infectious disease caused by new bunyavirus infection, which mostly occurs in spring and summer, and is generally high in May and July. It is mainly transmitted by tick bites. Many patients have been bitten by a tick 7 to 9 days before the onset of illness. Acute onset, mainly with fever and respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms as the early manifestations, followed by a progressive decline in platelet and white blood cell counts, a small number of patients with severe and rapid progression, can be due to multi-organ function damage and failure.
High-risk groups: The population is generally susceptible, and residents and laborers living and working in hilly, mountainous, forest and other areas, as well as tourists who go to such areas for outdoor activities, are at higher risk of infection.
Prevention tips: When working or traveling in the field, ▶ try to wear light-colored long-sleeved trousers, tie the neckline, cuffs and trouser cuffs, and regularly check your clothes for ticks. Avoid going to bushes, especially places where livestock are grazing. Spray or apply insect repellent to exposed areas of the skin. ▶ Take a shower after returning home from a field trip, and carefully check your hair, ears, neck, armpits, and other folds for tick infestation. ▶ When returning from going out with pets, you should carefully check whether there are ticks attached to the pet's body surface, and clean and sanitize them in time. ▶ People with a history of tick bites or field activities in foci should remain vigilant for tick-borne diseases, seek medical attention as soon as possible if they have suspected symptoms or signs such as fever, and inform their doctors of the relevant exposure history.
