You may not expect it, but in fact, "Alan Wake 2" is not yet profitable

Since its release, Alan Wake 2 has won the love of players with its unique gameplay experience and exciting plot, and despite being a horror game, it still has received rave reviews. Remedy won the TGA's "Best Art Direction" award last year, however, Remedy revealed in its financial statements for the first quarter of 2024 that the game has not yet fully recouped its development and marketing budget. Although the game has sold 1.3 million copies, making it Remedy's fastest-selling game, and has "recouped a significant portion of its development and marketing expenses", it is true that it is not yet the target for expected profitability.

The challenges are true, but on the bright side, Remedy's revenue has improved compared to the same period last year, reaching 10.8 million euros in the quarter, up 56.2 percent. This shows that Remedy is moving in a positive direction financially.

Remedy's financial statements also bring a number of ongoing project updates. Control's spin-off game, Codename Condor (which may eventually be known as FBC: Firebreak), is in the final stages of development. In addition, the remastered versions of Control 2 and Max Payne are also actively underway. The studio's Kestrel partnership with Tencent has deepened, with Tencent's investment in Remedy increasing to nearly 15 percent.

There has been speculation about the release of Alan Wake 2, and Remedy did not give a clear answer on the conference call as to whether Alan Wake 2 will be released on other PC platforms such as Steam. While there are rumors about the game's possible release on Steam, Remedy hasn't made any statements at this time. We will continue to monitor the development of this situation.

To ensure that Alan Wake 2 is profitable, Remedy will likely rely on upcoming DLC. Players are looking forward to the new content, hoping that it will bring more attraction and revenue to the game.

Due to the huge success of The Last of Us and Fallout, Remedy may have to consider the same strategy to increase the means of profitability.
